♟️ About LBX Sul de Minas

LBX Sul de Minas is a regional chess organization that coordinates tournaments across southern Minas Gerais, Brazil. It operates within the wider structure of the Liga Brasileira de Xadrez, commonly known as LBX. The circuit also reaches Campo das Vertentes and Zona da Mata, bringing organized chess to municipalities throughout the region.

The organization creates tournament opportunities for children, junior players, adults, senior competitors, veterans, and families. Its events combine competitive chess with community participation and local development. Therefore, players of different ages and experience levels can join the same regional program while competing in suitable categories.

LBX Sul de Minas works with municipal sports departments, schools, chess projects, local clubs, arbiters, volunteers, and community organizations. These partnerships allow the circuit to visit different towns each season. In addition, the organizer publishes tournament announcements, registration information, rankings, photographs, results, and live-game links through its official website.

🏆 Copa LBX Sul de Minas

The Copa LBX Sul de Minas is the organization’s principal tournament circuit. It consists of qualifying stages held in several municipalities, followed by a regional final for qualified players. Each stage awards individual prizes and points toward the overall circuit standings.

The official program includes categories for U7, U9, U11, U14, U17, and U20 players. It also offers adult, master, senior, veteran, and parents’ categories. As a result, the competition welcomes both young beginners and experienced adult players.

The circuit has expanded steadily across Minas Gerais. Its recent host locations include Baependi, Caxambu, São Lourenço, Paraguaçu, Cambuquira, Pouso Alegre, Liberdade, Minduri, Andrelândia, Bom Jardim de Minas, Santana da Vargem, and Itanhandu. Moreover, the organizer maintains annual rankings and publishes results from every completed stage.

🎓 Regional and Junior Chess Development

Youth participation forms a major part of the LBX Sul de Minas program. Its detailed age categories give children regular opportunities to compete against players at a similar stage of development. The circuit also encourages participation through schools, municipal chess projects, and local training groups.

At the same time, adult and senior categories help create an intergenerational chess community. Parents can participate alongside their children, while veteran players remain active within the same tournament structure. Consequently, the circuit promotes chess as a lifelong activity rather than a sport limited to one age group.

The wider Liga Brasileira de Xadrez supports a national rating and title system without charging players for rating registration or maintenance. LBX states that this model aims to make competitive chess more accessible, especially within schools and communities with fewer resources. The national organization was founded in 2013 and operates as a non-profit civil entity.

🤝 Tournament Organization and Local Cooperation

Beto Meirelles coordinates the Copa LBX Sul de Minas and serves as the main contact for its regional events. He works with local organizers in each host municipality to arrange the venue, registration, equipment, categories, awards, pairings, and tournament schedule.

For the 2026 final in Itanhandu, LBX Sul de Minas works with Oficina de Esportes – Itanhandu. The final concludes the regional season and brings together players who qualified through earlier stages. Chess-Results identifies Beto Meirelles as the person responsible for maintaining the tournament record.

In addition, the circuit has introduced live-game coverage at several events. The official website provides links to broadcasts, participant lists, photographs, rankings, and past results. This centralized information helps players, families, coaches, and local organizers follow the complete regional season.
