♟️ About Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation

Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation is a Nagpur-based organization with a strong focus on chess, youth development, and community activities. Bhushan Shriwas serves as Secretary and is the principal public figure connected with its chess activities. The foundation is particularly well known for its long-standing cooperation with G H Raisoni Sports & Cultural Foundation. Together, the organizations run the G H Raisoni Memorial tournament series, including classical, rapid, and blitz competitions. Their events have been staged in Nagpur as well as cities such as Pune, Amravati, Gwalior, Ujjain, and Ambikapur.

🏆 G H Raisoni Memorial Chess Events

The foundation’s flagship project is the G H Raisoni Memorial Nagpur Chess Festival, one of the longest-running major tournament series in the city. The 19th edition took place from June 7–14, 2026 at G H Raisoni Institute of Engineering & Technology in Nagpur. The festival combined an international classical Open with separate FIDE-rated rapid and blitz competitions. Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation and G H Raisoni Sports & Cultural Foundation jointly organized the event. The organization has also expanded the G H Raisoni tournament concept beyond Nagpur. During 2026, related events were staged in cities including Ujjain, Ambikapur, Gwalior, and Pune, often in cooperation with local chess associations.

🌱 Youth and School Chess

Youth chess is another important part of the foundation’s work. In July 2026, Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation and MKH Sancheti College organized the 3rd MKH Sancheti Inter-School Chess Championship in Nagpur in association with Chess Association Nagpur. The tournament attracted 214 schoolchildren and included separate boys’ and girls’ categories from U7 through U15. The foundation has also organized children’s chess festivals and rating-restricted tournaments, creating competitive opportunities for juniors, unrated players, and developing competitors alongside its larger international Opens.

♟️ 6th Nagpur Below 1700 Open 2026

A major upcoming event is the 6th Nagpur Below 1700 Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament, scheduled for September 4–6, 2026 at G H Raisoni Institute of Engineering & Technology.
