♟️ About Émeraude Échecs

Émeraude Échecs is an active chess club serving Plancoët, Dinan, and the surrounding Côte d’Émeraude area in Brittany, France. The club welcomes children, adults, beginners, recreational players, and experienced competitors. It operates regular chess activities from two main locations and gives members several ways to participate throughout the week. Players can join free-play sessions, structured lessons, tactical exercises, game analysis, blitz evenings, and official team competitions. Moreover, the club creates a friendly and respectful environment where new players can learn the rules while stronger members continue developing their competitive skills. Émeraude Échecs is affiliated with the French Chess Federation and represents Plancoët in regional and national team competitions.

🏆 Training, Team Chess and Community Development

The club maintains a broad program in both Plancoët and Dinan. Junior players receive regular instruction, while adults can take part in open club evenings and competitive training. In addition, Émeraude Échecs organizes monthly blitz tournaments and enters several teams in French interclub competitions. Its leading team competes within the national league structure, while additional squads give developing players valuable match experience. The club also works with schools, colleges, libraries, community organizations, and local social programs. For example, it delivers chess activities in educational institutions around Dinan and supports initiatives that use chess to strengthen concentration, confidence, communication, and social inclusion. Furthermore, Émeraude Échecs participates in the French Chess Federation’s Tour d’Avenir program and contributes to inclusion-focused community events in Dinan.

🌍 Plancoët International Open and Tournament Organization

Émeraude Échecs organizes the annual Plancoët International Open, one of the club’s principal competitive events. The tournament reached its nineteenth edition in 2026 and attracts players from Brittany, other regions of France, and abroad. Its festival structure includes three separate FIDE-rated classical sections for different rating levels. Therefore, experienced competitors, improving club players, juniors, and amateur participants can enter an appropriate tournament within the same event. The club manages registrations, participant communication, schedules, venue arrangements, financial administration, technical preparation, and cooperation with the arbitral team. Beyond the international open, Émeraude Échecs also organizes local rapid events, blitz competitions, school championships, community tournaments, and interclub fixtures. Through this combination of training, outreach, and tournament organization, the club plays an important role in chess development across eastern Côtes-d’Armor.
