♟️ About Dečiji šahovski klub “OSNOVAC”, Niš

Dečiji šahovski klub “OSNOVAC”, Niš is a youth-focused chess club based in Niš, Serbia. The club was founded on 10 September 2014. Since then, it has developed programs for children, teenagers, competitive adults, and women’s team chess. Moreover, the organization combines regular training with rated tournaments and community projects.

The club operates from TPC Kalča in central Niš. Its training room provides a permanent base for lessons, club activities, and player development. In addition, OSNOVAC welcomes children from five to eighteen years old through its chess school. The club uses practical play, exercises, and tournament experience to help students improve step by step.

Igor Lukić is the club’s main public contact and leads its major tournament projects. He holds the FIDE International Arbiter title. Furthermore, he works at important national and international chess events. Therefore, the club benefits from his experience in regulations, pairings, event management, and player communication.

🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Activity

OSNOVAC organizes the annual International Chess Festival Pantelej with support from the City Municipality of Pantelej. The festival includes the Pantelej Trophy classical open, an international blitz tournament, and cadet competitions. Consequently, one festival serves experienced competitors, club players, and young participants.

The main Pantelej Trophy uses a FIDE-rated Swiss format. It welcomes players below the published rating limit. Moreover, the organizer offers regular prizes and several special category awards. The accompanying blitz event adds a faster international competition. Meanwhile, the Cadet Trophy creates separate opportunities for younger age groups.

The club also organizes the Chess Caravan for Children and Youth with local municipal partners. These events bring structured chess competitions to different parts of Niš. In addition, they provide age-group tournaments and practical experience for junior players. The club also publishes registration details and communicates directly with families.

OSNOVAC also competes in Serbian team chess. Its women’s team won bronze in the Serbian Women’s First League in 2021. Then, it achieved a historic second place in 2022. As a result, the club recorded one of the strongest team achievements in the history of chess in Niš.

🎓 Chess School and Youth Development

Youth development remains central to the club’s identity. OSNOVAC provides chess instruction for children and teenagers throughout the year. Training covers the rules, tactics, strategy, calculation, and tournament habits. Therefore, beginners can build a solid foundation before entering formal competition.

More advanced students receive opportunities to play in regional, national, and international youth events. The club also supports players at school, cadet, and youth championships. Moreover, it shares their results and achievements through its public channels. This approach connects regular training with clear competitive goals.

The club’s tournament program supports the same development pathway. Cadet sections give children suitable opponents and age-based awards. Meanwhile, open events allow stronger juniors to test themselves against experienced adults. Consequently, students can progress within one connected training and competition environment.

OSNOVAC also encourages children to develop concentration, patience, confidence, and sporting discipline. In addition, tournament participation teaches them how to manage time and make independent decisions. Above all, the club aims to create a lasting interest in chess.

🤝 Women’s Chess and Community Engagement

OSNOVAC has expanded beyond its original youth focus. Its women’s team has represented Niš in Serbia’s highest national competition. The 2021 bronze medal and 2022 silver medal marked major achievements for the organization. Moreover, these results increased the visibility of women’s chess in the city.

The club works with municipal authorities, schools, sports institutions, arbiters, and other chess organizations. These partnerships support venues, equipment, promotion, and tournament delivery. In addition, they help OSNOVAC bring chess activities to new groups of children and families.

The organization also uses social media to publish training information, tournament announcements, results, and player achievements. Therefore, members can follow the club’s activities throughout the season. Parents can also receive timely information about lessons and upcoming competitions.

Through chess education, rated tournaments, women’s team competition, and community projects, OSNOVAC serves several parts of the local chess community. Above all, it gives young players a clear route from their first lesson to serious competition.
