♟️ About Club Deportivo de Ajedrez ValdeJúcar

Club Deportivo de Ajedrez ValdeJúcar is a chess club based in Valverde de Júcar, in the province of Cuenca, Spain. The organization promotes chess as a sporting, educational, cultural, and social activity for players from the town and the surrounding area. The club provides a local meeting point where members and visitors can play informal games, prepare for competitions, and take part in organized chess activities. Its program supports beginners who want to learn the game as well as experienced players seeking regular over-the-board practice. In addition, the organization encourages participation in official tournaments and events held by other clubs and chess federations. Club Deportivo de Ajedrez ValdeJúcar also works to make chess more visible within a small-town community. Therefore, its activities extend beyond conventional club meetings. The organization supports public events, chess exhibitions, educational initiatives, and projects that introduce the history and diversity of chess to wider audiences.

🎓 Chess Training and Cultural Activities

The club promotes chess education through courses, practical instruction, coaching, and opportunities to learn from stronger players. Participants can develop their knowledge of tactics, strategy, calculation, and competitive play while gaining experience through regular games. Its activities may include internal competitions, friendly matches, simultaneous exhibitions, local festival tournaments, and social meetings connected with chess. Moreover, players can represent the club in external events or participate in competitions organized within the regional and national chess structure. The organization also supports the travelling cultural project “Ajedrez, XV Siglos de Historia.” The initiative presents chess through historical sets, unusual designs, and material connected with the development of the game across different cultures and periods. As a result, the club combines competitive chess with a broader interest in chess history, art, education, and collecting. José Luis Fernández Muñoz leads the organization and holds the FIDE School Instructor qualification. His work includes club administration, chess promotion, cultural projects, and tournament organization in Valverde de Júcar.

🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Chess

Tournament organization is an important part of the club’s work. Club Deportivo de Ajedrez ValdeJúcar cooperates with other chess organizations to bring FIDE-rated competition to the province of Cuenca. The club co-organized the first Open Internacional Sub2400 “Valverde de Júcar” in 2025. Following that initial event, it joined Club Ajedrez Excalibur again to organize the second edition in July 2026. The II Open Internacional Sub2400 Valverde de Júcar is a six-round classical tournament for national and international players with a FIDE standard rating below 2400. It counts for FIDE standard rating and includes general, rating, women’s, and provincial prizes. Furthermore, the compact three-day format gives club players access to serious rated competition without requiring a full week of travel. Through this international event, public chess projects, and regular local activities, Club Deportivo de Ajedrez ValdeJúcar strengthens chess participation in Valverde de Júcar. Overall, the organization connects community chess, cultural promotion, player development, and official competition within one active local structure.
