♟️ About the Organizer
Club de Ajedrez 64 Villalba is a nonprofit chess organization based in Collado Villalba, Madrid, Spain. Its activities began in May 2005 as a section of Asociación Deportiva Collado Villalba. In May 2009, the organization became an independent club under its current name.
The club provides a regular meeting place for competitive players, juniors, adults, and beginners. Members can attend training sessions, play rated games, join internal activities, and represent the club in team competitions.
Luis Blasco de la Cruz serves as the club’s president. He is also a FIDE International Arbiter, International Organizer, FIDE Instructor, and experienced chess educator. His work connects tournament organization with chess training, school projects, and inclusive community programs.
The club competes in the Madrid Team Chess Championship. Its teams have played across several divisions, including the regional División de Honor, youth leagues, and lower adult divisions. Therefore, members can find suitable competition at different levels.
🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Chess
The club organizes the annual Open Internacional de Ajedrez 64 Villalba. This established classical tournament attracts players from Madrid, other Spanish regions, and international federations.
The open normally uses a nine-round Swiss system and counts toward the FIDE standard rating. It also offers opportunities for titled players, ambitious club competitors, juniors, and lower-rated participants.
In addition, the club cooperates with Madrid Chess Academy on FIDE-rated competitions held at its headquarters. These events include classical tournaments played over several weekends, allowing local players to compete without attending a full residential festival.
The organization also supports rapid tournaments, junior competitions, Christmas events, and the Reyes Magos tournament. Moreover, it works with the Collado Villalba municipal authorities and other local partners to bring chess into public and community programs.
Club members regularly participate in regional and national team championships. This competitive structure gives developing players a pathway from club activities to stronger league and tournament play.
🌱 Chess Training and Social Projects
Chess education forms an important part of the club’s work. The organization provides classes for children, adults, beginners, and experienced players. Its program combines tactical exercises, game analysis, practical play, and tournament preparation.
The club has also developed specialist projects that use chess as an educational and social tool. Its Ajedrez y TDAH initiative works with children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The program uses chess activities to support concentration, planning, decision-making, and social interaction.
Club de Ajedrez 64 Villalba also participated in the European CASTLE Project. This Erasmus+ initiative developed classroom materials that allowed primary-school teachers to use chess without depending entirely on external instructors.
Through training, tournaments, team competition, and inclusive projects, the club supports a broad chess community in Collado Villalba. Beginners can learn in a structured environment, while experienced players can pursue ratings, team success, and stronger competition.
