♟️ About Circolo Scacchistico Lucchese A.S.D.

Circolo Scacchistico Lucchese A.S.D. is a non-profit chess association based in Lucca, Tuscany, Italy. The club affiliates with the Federazione Scacchistica Italiana (FSI) under club ID 17045. Its activities include FIDE-rated tournaments, club competition, junior chess, chess courses, team events, game analysis, and recreational play. The club operates from the historic Casermetta di Porta Santa Maria on Lucca’s city walls. In addition, its chess school has used Palazzo Micheletti in Borgo Giannotti for junior instruction. Through these locations, the association provides both regular club activity and structured chess education for players ranging from beginners to experienced competitors. According to the current 2026 FSI registry, Roberto Bonacchi serves as President of Circolo Scacchistico Lucchese A.S.D. The federation also lists Cesare Baldassarri, Marin Jance, Paolo Torre, and Eleonora Vannucci on the current council. Bonacchi has also been closely involved with the club’s chess-school and organizational activities. Therefore, he provides an appropriate current principal contact for the association.

🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Activity

Tournament organization forms a major part of Circolo Scacchistico Lucchese’s work. The club has organized events in Lucca and elsewhere in the province, including the Lucca Chess Festival, the Campionato Provinciale Lucchese, youth qualification competitions, and the recurring Scacchi al Casinò tournament in Bagni di Lucca. The Lucca Chess Festival brought players from Italy and abroad to the Foro Boario. Its program combined competitive tournament chess with the club’s broader effort to create a visible chess event for the city. Moreover, municipal tourism sources identify Circolo Scacchistico Lucchese as the organizer of the festival. The club also runs smaller tournaments and club activities during the season. These include free-play sessions, team challenges, simultaneous exhibitions, game analysis, training competitions, and other events for members. Consequently, Circolo Scacchistico Lucchese combines large public tournaments with the regular competitive activity expected from an FSI-affiliated chess association.

🎰 Scacchi al Casinò

One of the club’s distinctive recurring competitions is Scacchi al Casinò, held at the historic Casinò Municipale in Bagni di Lucca. Circolo Scacchistico Lucchese launched the event in cooperation with the Comune di Bagni di Lucca. The tournament has subsequently developed into a regular FIDE-rated weekend competition. The historic casino provides an unusual setting for competitive chess and connects the tournament with one of the province’s best-known cultural venues. The 2026 Scacchi al Casinò takes place from October 10–11, 2026. The competition includes two classical sections, with one aimed at players above the published rating threshold and the other at lower-rated participants. Players compete over five rounds at 60 minutes plus 30 seconds per move. Moreover, the 2026 tournament offers a €2,000 prize fund and accommodates up to 80 players. Circolo Scacchistico Lucchese remains the chess organization behind the event, while the Municipality of Bagni di Lucca supports the local partnership.

🎓 Scuola Scacchistica Lucchese and Player Development

Chess education is one of the club’s core objectives. Scuola Scacchistica Lucchese provides instruction for children and adults at different playing levels. The school’s programs have included beginner, amateur, intermediate, and advanced courses. Topics have covered opening play, pawn structures, elementary endings, tactics, game analysis, and practical tournament preparation. In addition, the club has offered both in-person and online instruction. The teaching structure has involved qualified players and FSI instructors. FM Pierluigi Passerotti has served as Educational Director, while instructors associated with the school have included competitive players such as Ermanno Pacini and Angelo Panattoni. Junior players also receive dedicated club activity. The club has organized free play, tournaments, team challenges, simultaneous exhibitions, training sessions, and game-analysis opportunities for younger members. Therefore, students can combine formal lessons with practical over-the-board chess.

🧒 School Chess and Youth Activity

Circolo Scacchistico Lucchese also supports chess beyond its permanent club environment. Its instructors have worked with young players and schools in Lucca, connecting school chess with federation competition. A notable example involves Scuola Pascoli in Lucca, whose teams achieved strong results in regional school chess under training connected with the club. The association has also organized youth qualification tournaments and dedicated junior sessions. Moreover, the club’s youth program allows developing players to move from instruction into formal tournament chess. This progression supports both recreational participation and stronger competitive ambitions. The combination of chess-school courses, junior club sessions, school activity, and FSI-rated tournaments gives young players several ways to remain involved as their experience grows.

🤝 Chess in Lucca and Community Activity

The club maintains a close connection with the wider Lucca community. Its headquarters inside the city walls provide a distinctive base for regular chess, while larger events use venues such as Foro Boario and the Casinò Municipale in Bagni di Lucca. Circolo Scacchistico Lucchese also organizes study evenings and educational events. Previous programs have included analysis of famous historical tournaments and masterclasses devoted to specific strategic themes. In addition, the association maintains active Facebook and Instagram profiles where it shares club news, tournament information, results, and local chess activities. Through this combination of teaching, competition, youth development, and public events, Circolo Scacchistico Lucchese provides a broad chess program for Lucca and the surrounding province.
