♟️ About ASD Circolo Scacchi Alekhine

ASD Circolo Scacchi Alekhine is a chess club, recognized chess school, and tournament organizer based in Aradeo, in the province of Lecce, Italy. The association was founded on April 25, 2005, following the closure of Circolo Scacchi “Franco Mele” in Galatina. Its founders were Mattia Renna of Neviano and Alberto Manta of Aradeo.

The organization promotes chess as a sporting, educational, cultural, and social activity. It welcomes children, teenagers, adults, beginners, club players, and experienced competitors. Members can attend regular club meetings, receive instruction, play friendly games, and prepare for individual or team competitions.

ASD Circolo Scacchi Alekhine operates from its club venue on Via Scalfo in Aradeo. During the school year, the club holds weekly activities on Wednesday evenings. In summer, it also organizes public chess sessions in local squares, bringing the game into an informal and accessible community setting.

🎓 Chess School and Youth Development

The association has operated as an FSI-recognized chess school since 2012. Its program includes beginner courses, first- and second-level instruction, group lessons, individual coaching, practical exercises, and tournament preparation.

Young players form an important part of the club’s activities. Qualified instructors help children and teenagers develop tactical awareness, calculation, strategic understanding, concentration, and respect for their opponents. Students can begin with the basic rules before progressing toward youth championships and other official competitions.

The club also delivers chess projects in schools and educational institutions across the province of Lecce. Its instructors have worked with schools and community organizations in Aradeo, Neviano, Galatone, Seclì, Copertino, Gallipoli, Alessano, and other nearby communities.

These projects include classroom instruction, after-school courses, summer activities, and youth tournaments. Therefore, the association reaches many children who may not initially have access to a traditional chess club.

ASD Circolo Scacchi Alekhine also follows safeguarding and ethical standards designed to create a respectful and inclusive environment. Its principles emphasize fair play, integrity, cooperation, responsible conduct, and protection of all participants.

🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Chess

Tournament organization has formed a major part of the club’s work since its early years. The association organizes standard, rapid, blitz, junior, school, and social chess events in Aradeo and other municipalities across Salento.

Its activities include internal championships, qualification tournaments, youth competitions, simultaneous exhibitions, school events, public chess initiatives, and tournaments connected with local festivals. In addition, the club participates in the Italian Team Chess Championship and supports members who compete in regional and national events.

The club’s recurring competitions include the Garry Kasparov Blitz Tournament and the Torneo Semilampo “Città di Neviano.” It also promotes summer chess in local squares and supports other established events held throughout the province of Lecce.

The Torneo Semilampo Città di Neviano is one of the association’s longest-running public competitions. The tournament series has developed into a traditional late-summer event and reached its 20th edition in 2026.

The XX Torneo Semilampo Città di Neviano takes place on August 30, 2026, at Aula Polifunzionale in Neviano. The competition uses a seven-round Swiss system and counts for FIDE Rapid rating. It offers cash prizes and additional awards for junior players, women, and several rating categories.

Through its recognized chess school, educational partnerships, team participation, public activities, and extensive tournament program, ASD Circolo Scacchi Alekhine continues to support chess development across Aradeo, Neviano, and the wider Salento region.
