♟️ About the Organizer
Chess klub Nová Dubnica is an active chess organization based in Nová Dubnica, Slovakia. The club promotes chess among children, adult players, beginners, and experienced competitors from the city and the surrounding Trenčín Region.
Daniel Duda serves as President of the club. He is also a licensed National Arbiter, tournament director, chess trainer, and active competitive player. Moreover, he manages registrations, tournament preparation, pairings, communication with participants, and cooperation with local venues.
The club organizes its activities at community and cultural venues in Nová Dubnica and nearby municipalities. Its program combines rapid tournaments, memorial competitions, junior events, practical training, and participation in other Slovak chess tournaments.
🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Chess
The club’s principal recurring event is the Oldřich Kycla Memorial. The competition honors Oldřich Kycla and also has a charitable purpose.
The eighth memorial edition takes place on September 20, 2026, at ATRIUM Penzión a reštaurácia in Trenčianska Teplá. The program includes a closed main tournament and a separate B tournament.
Both sections use nine rounds and a rapid time control of 12 minutes plus five seconds per move. However, the main tournament uses a round-robin format, while the B section follows the Swiss system. Daniel Duda serves as tournament director and chief arbiter.
Chess klub Nová Dubnica also organizes the Šachový palacinkový turnaj, or Chess Pancake Tournament. This accessible rapid event welcomes children and other local players. The tournament combines competitive chess with a friendly community atmosphere.
Other club activities have included smaller opening tournaments, local cups, and events at Kultúrna beseda in Nová Dubnica. Consequently, players can enter both selective competitions and beginner-friendly tournaments.
🌱 Junior and Community Chess
Youth development forms an important part of the club’s work. Young members represent Chess klub Nová Dubnica in regional tournaments and the Slovak GPX junior competition series.
The club helps children learn tournament rules, time management, concentration, and sporting behavior. In addition, practical competitions allow new players to gain experience before they enter stronger rated events.
The organization also welcomes pupils from schools in Nová Dubnica who are not yet registered with another chess club. This approach helps introduce more children to organized over-the-board chess.
Through tournaments, junior participation, and community cooperation, Chess klub Nová Dubnica supports the growth of chess in the local area. Beginners can discover formal competition, while established players can join stronger rapid and memorial events.
