♟️ About the Organizer
Canary Islands Chess Federation, officially known as Federación Canaria de Ajedrez (FCA), is the regional governing body for chess in the Canary Islands, Spain. The federation directs and organizes official chess activity throughout the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.
The federation manages chess administration, official competitions, regulations, player licenses, development programs, and relations with clubs and other chess organizations. It also promotes chess across the archipelago and supports the preparation of high-performance players. FCA operates under the coordination of the Government of the Canary Islands and is integrated into the Spanish Chess Federation.
Its territorial structure includes the chess federations of Gran Canaria and Tenerife. It also works through island delegations in La Palma, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura. This structure allows the federation to coordinate competitions and development activity across several islands while working with local clubs, players, arbiters, trainers, and public institutions.
🏆 Chess Events and Competitions
Canary Islands Chess Federation organizes and supervises the main official chess championships in the region. Its competition program includes the Canary Islands Absolute Championship, Women’s Championship, Youth Championship, Veterans Championship, Team Championship, Rapid Championship, Blitz Championship, and championships for different junior age groups.
The youth competition structure includes events for the Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, and Under-16 categories. The federation also works with the Government of the Canary Islands on school-age championships. These events give young players a pathway from island-level competitions to regional championships and national events.
The 2026 program includes regional championships for individual players, clubs, women, veterans, and juniors. FCA also supports the Canary Islands Active Chess Circuit and tournaments selected for inclusion in its official program. Tournament announcements, regulations, registration information, and results appear on the federation’s website.
🌍 Player Development and Chess Community
Canary Islands Chess Federation supports player development through technical training programs and activities for promising young players. Its responsibilities include creating and implementing preparation plans for high-level competitors and coordinating regional participation in Spanish competitions.
The federation also maintains specialist structures for arbiters, chess instructors, and coaches. These bodies support technical education, tournament standards, and the development of qualified chess professionals throughout the islands.
Additional programs cover women’s chess, fair play, safeguarding of minors, school chess, and cooperation with government institutions. Through these activities, FCA connects official competition with education, player development, and wider participation in chess across the Canary Islands.
