♟️ About Caissargues Chess Club

Caissargues Chess Club is an active chess organization in Caissargues, Gard, France. The club combines competitive chess, structured instruction, school outreach, and community events. Moreover, it welcomes children, adults, beginners, recreational players, and experienced competitors. The French Chess Federation lists the organization under club code N30070. As a result, the club now records more than 100 licensed members across competitive and leisure categories.

The club operates as a French nonprofit sports association. Its registered office is in nearby Garons, while regular activities take place at Salle polyvalente 2 in Caissargues. Since its early seasons, the organization has expanded beyond weekly club meetings. Therefore, members can join lessons, rated tournaments, team competitions, training camps, and public chess activities.

Silvia Alexieva founded the club and serves as its President. She holds the FIDE titles of International Master and Woman Grandmaster. In addition, she leads training, team development, tournament organization, and external partnerships. A wider committee supports her work. It includes Vice-President Éric Fuchs, Treasurer Philippe Poujol, Development Director Bruno Mangin, Secretary Dominique Malesinski, and Community Manager Marie Rutyna.

🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Activity

Caissargues Chess Club organizes a varied calendar of classical, rapid, youth, women’s, and team events. During its 2024–2025 season, the club delivered eight tournaments. These included the Tournoi des Fous, Tournoi des Rois, Trophée Caïssa, Rapide de Caissargues, and Coupe Loubatière. Moreover, the club hosted a youth tournament and regional championship phases.

The organization also competes in regional team chess. Three adult teams represented Caissargues in the Occitanie regional league during the 2024–2025 season. Meanwhile, two junior teams entered the French U16 interclub structure. The leading youth team finished third in its group. Furthermore, club players progressed through several stages of the Coupe Jean-Claude Loubatière.

The club’s largest project is the Apogée International Chess Festival. The inaugural edition takes place from August 22–30, 2026, in Caissargues and the wider Nîmes area. It combines two nine-round FIDE-rated opens with cultural activities and public events. Furthermore, former FIDE World Champion Veselin Topalov joins selected festival activities. The program includes a simultaneous exhibition, public meetings, and events linked with Nîmes and Pont du Gard.

The festival reflects the club’s growing organizational capacity. Qualified international arbiters manage the competition, while the club coordinates entries, venues, partners, accommodation guidance, and player communication. In addition, the event receives support from the French Chess Federation and several regional public institutions.

🎓 Chess Training and Youth Development

Chess education forms a central part of the club’s work. The organization provides regular sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Different groups serve young beginners, school-age players, adults, and mixed levels. Therefore, members can follow a schedule that matches their age and experience.

The club also brings chess into schools across Caissargues, Nîmes, and nearby communities. During the 2024–2025 season, its instructors worked with four nursery schools, seven primary schools, and one middle school. Moreover, many programs concluded with a tournament. Consequently, students could apply new skills in a structured and enjoyable setting.

Young club members receive a clear route into official competition. Seventeen players represented Caissargues at the 2024 Gard Youth Championship. Ten qualified for the regional stage, while club players won four departmental titles. In addition, Caissargues achieved a complete podium in one U10 category. The club then supported nine players at the Occitanie Youth Championship.

Training also connects juniors with team chess. Experienced coaches prepare players for regional leagues, youth championships, and national qualifying events. As a result, young members can move from introductory lessons to serious competition within the same development system.

🤝 Inclusive Chess and Community Engagement

Caissargues Chess Club promotes chess as a shared activity for different generations and backgrounds. Its club sessions place children and adults in the same welcoming environment. Moreover, the organization emphasizes friendship, social inclusion, and learning through play.

The tournament calendar also supports wider participation. The Trophée Caïssa creates a dedicated competition for women. Meanwhile, mixed tournaments allow players of different ages and ratings to compete together. The club also hosts stages of national and regional events. Consequently, Caissargues maintains strong links with the wider French chess community.

The Apogée Festival extends this approach beyond the chessboard. Its program combines competition with culture, public speaking, local heritage, and open activities. In addition, the festival promotes stronger prize equality for women through an independent financial supplement. Therefore, the project connects high-level chess with a broader social message.
