♟️ About Buddhibal Seva Sansthan

Buddhibal Seva Sansthan (BSS) is a nonprofit organization based in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India, established in 2014. Its activities combine social-welfare initiatives with grassroots sports development, while chess has become one of its most prominent areas of work. The organization operates its chess program through Chess in Lakecity, a long-running Udaipur chess initiative that works within the structure of the Rajasthan Chess Association (RCA) and All India Chess Federation (AICF). Through Chess in Lakecity, the organization runs FIDE-rated open tournaments, rating-restricted competitions, coaching camps, school chess activities, arbiter-development programs, and major multi-day festivals. Chess in Lakecity has organized events since 2008. Current 2026 tournament regulations state that the team has delivered more than 200 chess tournaments and events, including over 40 FIDE- and AICF-recognized tournaments. Its competitions regularly attract players from across India and have helped establish Udaipur as a recurring destination on the Indian chess calendar. IA & NI Vikas Sahu is the principal current chess organizer and public contact associated with Buddhibal Seva Sansthan. He serves as Organizing Secretary and Secretary of Chess in Lakecity and handles tournament information, player communication, and organizational matters. The organization has two major competitions scheduled for the remainder of 2026: the 9th N. L. Pandiyar Memorial Lakecity International Open from October 25–29 and the Winter Cup Below 1700 Lakecity International Chess Tournament from December 22–24, both at Orbit Resort in Udaipur.

🏆 Chess in Lakecity

Chess in Lakecity is the principal chess platform associated with Buddhibal Seva Sansthan. Although the BSS organization was established in 2014, Chess in Lakecity traces its tournament activity back to 2008. Its tournament portfolio has included the N. L. Pandiyar Memorial series, Summer Cup, Winter Cup, Holi Cup, rating-restricted opens, international FIDE-rating tournaments, and other competitions for players at different stages of development. The organization has also built substantial experience in large-event logistics. Its tournaments commonly combine large prize structures with accommodation arrangements, meals, several rating categories, junior awards, and large teams of arbiters and tournament officials. The Summer Cup Classical Below 1800 Rating Tournament 2024, for example, attracted 561 players, demonstrating the scale that Chess in Lakecity events can reach.

🎓 Chess Education and Player Development

Chess development extends beyond tournament organization. Chess in Lakecity has conducted coaching camps, school programs, and training initiatives for young players in Udaipur. Its coaching activities have included camps with experienced Indian International Masters, including IM Anup Deshmukh and IM Neeraj Kumar Mishra, as well as international coaching involvement. The organization has also conducted Senior National Arbiter seminars and a FIDE Arbiter Seminar, supporting the development of tournament officials alongside players. In November 2023, FIDE Deputy Chair Dana Reizniece-Ozola visited a Chess in Lakecity program at St. Anthony School in Udaipur. FIDE reported at the time that Chess in Lakecity had already organized more than 50 national and international tournaments and helped develop over 200 rated players. The organization also runs grassroots initiatives such as free chess training at Gulab Bagh, connecting formal competitive chess with wider community participation.

🌟 N. L. Pandiyar Memorial Lakecity International Open

The N. L. Pandiyar Memorial Lakecity International Open is one of the organization’s principal tournament series. The 9th edition is scheduled for October 25–29, 2026 at Orbit Resort in Udaipur. The tournament will consist of nine FIDE-rated classical rounds using a time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment from move one. The published fixed cash prize fund is ₹1,601,000, with 113 cash prizes and 122 trophies. First prize is ₹111,000, while additional awards cover rating categories, women, juniors, veterans, Rajasthan players, Udaipur players, and players with disabilities. The history of the series includes victories by players such as IM Sriram Jha, IM Akshat Khamparia, IM Ramnathan Balasubramanian, and other strong Indian competitors.

❄️ Winter Cup Lakecity

Buddhibal Seva Sansthan will close its major 2026 calendar with the Winter Cup Below 1700 Lakecity International Chess Tournament, scheduled for December 22–24, 2026 at Orbit Resort. The tournament is organized by Buddhibal Seva Sansthan through Chess in Lakecity under the Rajasthan Chess Association. It will use a nine-round Swiss system with a time control of 30 minutes plus a 30-second increment from move one and will receive FIDE standard rating. The published prize fund is ₹1,600,000, again distributed through 113 cash prizes and 122 trophies, with a ₹111,000 first prize. Vikas Sahu serves as Organizing Secretary, while a wider tournament team of International and FIDE Arbiters supports registration, accommodation, and tournament operations.

🤝 Community and Social Activity

Buddhibal Seva Sansthan’s work extends beyond chess. Current organizational material describes programs supporting economically weaker communities, blood-donation initiatives, animal medical camps, rural development, community welfare, and youth sports. Chess fits within this broader social mission as a tool for education, personal development, discipline, and youth participation. Consequently, the organization combines large competitive tournaments with school chess, free training, coaching, and opportunities for developing players.
