♟️ About the Organizer
Association Najah Souss Agadir Chess Club, also known as Association Najah Souss Agadir d’Échecs or ANSAE, is an established chess club and tournament organizer based in Agadir, Morocco. Founded in 1987, the association promotes chess throughout Agadir and the wider Souss-Massa region. It is affiliated with the Royal Moroccan Chess Federation and provides organized chess activities for children, junior players, adults, and experienced competitors. The club combines chess education, competitive participation, tournament organization, and community-focused activities designed to make chess accessible to players from different backgrounds and age groups.
🏆 Tournaments and Chess Events
ANSAE organizes a varied program of over-the-board competitions, including classical, rapid, blitz, youth, women’s, and open tournaments. One of its principal events is the International Tournament of Moroccans of the World, held in Agadir and combining rated competition with chess workshops, cultural activities, children’s introductory sessions, and professional-development programs. The 2024 edition included a FIDE-rated classical tournament with approximately 140 participants. The association has also organized the Najah Souss Classical Tournament, the Najah Souss Blitz Tournament, women’s chess events, and internationally rated competitions registered with FIDE. These activities help establish Agadir as an important meeting point for players from Morocco and the Moroccan community abroad.
🌱 Youth Chess and Player Development
Youth development is a central part of the association’s work. ANSAE provides training and regular competitive opportunities for promising players, helping them progress from introductory chess to regional, national, and international competition. In May 2026, club representatives achieved four gold medals at the Moroccan national age-group championships, with titles in the girls’ under-8, girls’ under-14, boys’ under-18, and girls’ under-20 categories. Additional club players earned national-team selection places and other medal results. The association is led by Meryem Youssoufi, who also appears in FIDE records as an organizer of ANSAE competitions. Through coaching, tournaments, workshops, and cooperation with chess institutions, the club continues to strengthen youth and women’s chess in the Souss-Massa region.
