♟️ About Association Le Carré Royal de Ksibet El Mediouni
Association Le Carré Royal de Ksibet El Mediouni, also presented in tournament materials as CARRE ROYAL Chess Club, is a Tunisian chess organization based in Ksibet El Mediouni, Monastir Governorate. The association combines local chess activity with the organization of FIDE-rated competitions and international chess projects. It works within the Tunisian chess structure and cooperates with the Tunisian Chess Federation on tournaments and technical development. The association has become particularly active in international tournament organization in the Monastir region. Its recent work includes the Sahel International Chess Festival, classical and blitz competitions for several rating groups, senior chess, and programs for chess officials. In September 2025, it also co-organized an official FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar in Monastir with the Tunisian Chess Federation under the auspices of the FIDE Arbiters’ Commission. Chaher Eddine Miladi is President of Association Le Carré Royal and its principal public representative. He also serves as Director of the Sahel International Chess Festival and has extensive experience in tournament organization and chess administration. The association’s principal current project is the Sahel International Chess Festival 2026, scheduled for October 24–November 1, 2026, in Monastir.🏆 International Tournament Activity
Association Le Carré Royal has developed its tournament program around bringing FIDE-rated international competition to Tunisia’s Sahel region. Its events are designed for players across a broad rating range rather than only elite competitors. The association organized the first Sahel International Chess Festival in 2025 under the supervision of the Tunisian Chess Federation. Official regulations identified CARRE ROYAL Chess Club as the organizer and Chaher Eddine Miladi as Festival Director and head of the organizing committee. That edition included separate classical sections for players above 2000, players rated 1700–2000, players below 1700, a senior competition, and a blitz tournament. All sections were registered for FIDE rating. The association also contributes to technical development. From September 3–5, 2025, it worked with the Tunisian Chess Federation to stage a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar in Monastir. Thirteen participants from Tunisia and Libya attended, and successful candidates earned norms toward the FIDE Arbiter title.🌍 Sahel International Chess Festival 2026
The second Sahel International Chess Festival is scheduled for October 24–November 1, 2026, at Hôtel El Habib in Monastir. Association Le Carré Royal de Ksibet El Mediouni is identified by Chess-Results as the organizer of the festival’s FIDE-rated competitions. The main program consists of six groups: Open A Elite, Open B Challengers, Open C Progression, Open D Development, Open E Seniors 50+, and Open F Blitz. The classical tournaments use nine-round Swiss formats, while the blitz competition is scheduled for October 29. Open A is designed for players rated 2000 and above, with additional sections covering progressively lower rating ranges. Consequently, the festival provides competition for titled players, experienced club players, developing competitors, seniors, and lower-rated participants within one event. The festival advertises an overall prize fund of approximately TND 28,000, equivalent to about €8,200. International participation is also a major part of the event, with registered players representing Tunisia and several other federations.🏛️ Organization and Leadership
Chaher Eddine Miladi serves as President of Association Le Carré Royal and Director of the Sahel International Chess Festival. FIDE also lists him among its recognized tournament organizers. His chess administration experience includes previous work with the Tunisian Chess Federation and service as President of the Competitions and Tournaments Commission of the Arab Chess Union from 2013 to 2017. For the 2026 Sahel festival, Miladi oversees the general direction and strategic coordination of the event. Hassen Abdellali and Vadim Tsypin serve as Deputy Tournament Directors, while an extended team manages technical operations, international player coordination, media, institutional relations, and tournament logistics. IA Mohamed Ali Baktache is Chief Arbiter for the 2026 festival, with Diana Tsypina serving as Deputy Chief Arbiter. This expanded organizational structure reflects the association’s move toward larger international events requiring dedicated tournament, arbitration, communications, and player-services teams.
