Arvydas Baltrūnas is an experienced Lithuanian chess organizer, international arbiter, tournament director, and active competitive player based in Panevėžys, Lithuania. FIDE awarded him the International Organizer title in 2012 and the International Arbiter title in 2014. He is also a licensed Category C International Arbiter. Baltrūnas has held administrative responsibilities within Lithuanian chess and has played an important role in organizing nationally and internationally rated competitions. His work covers tournament planning, technical administration, pairing management, arbiter coordination, participant communication, accommodation arrangements, and the submission of events for national and FIDE rating.
🏆 Tournaments and Chess Events
Arvydas Baltrūnas is closely associated with the Panevėžys Chess Club and its extensive tournament program. He is the principal organizer and tournament director of the long-running Panevėžys Open, one of Lithuania’s established international chess festivals. FIDE records already identified him as chief organizer of the 20th Panevėžys Open in 2007, while the 38th edition took place in 2025. The festival has included separate open sections for different rating levels, norm tournaments, rapid and blitz competitions, youth events, and memorial tournaments. Current Panevėžys Open information continues to direct registrations and organizational enquiries to Baltrūnas.
His wider organizational activity includes the Lithuanian Amateur Chess Championship, Lithuanian rapid and blitz competitions, medical workers’ championships, city championships, and other open tournaments held in Panevėžys, Vilnius, and elsewhere in Lithuania. The 2026 Lithuanian Amateur Championship regulations identify him as both organizer and tournament director, while other recent competitions list him as chief arbiter or technical official. He has also served as an arbiter at international youth festivals and cross-border chess events.
