Academia Patrocinense de Xadrez (APX) is an active chess association in Patrocínio, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The organization promotes competitive chess, regular practice, and local player development. Moreover, it connects players with official CBX and FIDE-rated events. Its legal name is Associação Patrocinense de Xadrez.

APX maintains an elected board for the 2025–2028 term. Clever Gonçalves de Sales serves as President. Meanwhile, Rita de Cássia Vital de Araújo serves as Vice-President. Rafael Aparecido Pires Espíndula manages the organization’s finances. In addition, Valdimir Silva Devos and Gustavo de Carvalho Dias lead the technical area.

The organization works with local clubs, educational institutions, businesses, and public partners. Therefore, it can organize events across several venues in Patrocínio. APX also publishes calendars, regulations, player lists, results, and tournament reports through its official website. The Patrocínio Classical Chess Circuit forms a central part of its annual program. Several qualifying stages lead toward a final “Best of the Year” competition. Therefore, local players can compete throughout the season and pursue the municipal classical title. The circuit also helps players establish or develop their FIDE ratings.

APX runs similar circuits for rapid and blitz chess. In addition, it organizes the Coffee & Chess Rapid Tournament and several Avanze IRT competitions. The academy has also delivered a FIDE-rated team tournament. Consequently, players can experience several competitive formats during the year.

The organization works with venues such as Lions Clube, Avanze Coworking, and local cultural spaces. It also cooperates with municipal departments and regional chess partners. Meanwhile, qualified arbiters manage pairings, regulations, results, and rating submissions.

Valdimir Silva Devos leads many APX tournaments as organizer, technical director, and chief arbiter. FIDE awarded him the FIDE Arbiter title in 2023. He also holds School Instructor and National Arbiter qualifications. Therefore, APX benefits from experienced technical leadership during its rated events.
