♟️ About A.S.D. Scacchistica Pordenonese

A.S.D. Scacchistica Pordenonese is an active chess club based in Pordenone, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy. Founded in 2016, the association promotes chess through regular club activity, competitive play, tournaments, courses, school programs, and community initiatives. Its headquarters at Via Stradelle 5c provide a permanent meeting and training venue for players of different ages and strengths. Chess education is one of the club’s main priorities. In 2018, it created the Vera Menchik Chess School, named after the first Women’s World Chess Champion. The school offers beginner, intermediate, and competitive courses led by FSI-recognized instructors. Its educational work has expanded beyond the club itself into schools, associations, summer programs, and other community environments. The association is also an established tournament organizer in Pordenone and nearby Porcia. Its 2026 calendar includes regional championships, school chess, rapid and blitz competitions, community tournaments, and the 3° Festival Internazionale di Chess Pong. Michele Perricone is the current President and principal public contact and remains directly involved in both the club’s tournament program and team activity.

🎓 Vera Menchik Chess School

The Scuola di Scacchi “Vera Menchik” forms the educational core of Scacchistica Pordenonese. Courses are available for beginners, improving players, and competitors preparing for official tournaments. Current instructors include Michele Perricone, Michele Licandro, Massimiliano Giordano, and other qualified chess teachers. Since its creation, the school has organized more than 50 chess courses in different settings, including schools, associations, summer programs, and correctional institutions. Online training is also available when sufficient demand exists.

🏫 Youth and School Chess

Youth chess is another important area of activity. In March 2026, the club organized the provincial phase of the Trofeo Scacchi Scuola, which brought together 35 school teams and more than 200 students from institutions throughout the Province of Pordenone. The club also supports young players through lessons, junior tournaments, and participation in the Italian Youth Championship pathway. This combination of school outreach and structured club training gives children a route from their first chess lessons toward federation competition.

♜ Team Chess

A.S.D. Scacchistica Pordenonese participates regularly in the Campionato Italiano a Squadre. For 2026, its leading team competes in Serie B, while additional teams represent the club in Serie C. The association has developed enough depth to maintain several competitive squads, including teams designed to give younger and developing players experience in official competition. Michele Perricone continues to act as the principal team official for the club’s national championship participation.

🏆 Regional Championships and 2026 Events

The club organizes numerous events throughout Friuli-Venezia Giulia. In March 2026, Scacchistica Pordenonese organized the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Regional Blitz Championship in Porcia. The nine-round event attracted 46 participants from across the region and awarded both open and women’s regional titles. The association has also organized the 2026 Regional Absolute Championship, together with a busy calendar of rapid tournaments and community events. During summer 2026, its program included the Torneo Solidale, 5° Torneo del Lago, Torneo del Dono, Torneo Pedoni e Portieri, and additional chess events in Pordenone and surrounding communities.

🌍 3° Festival Internazionale di Chess Pong

One of the club’s most distinctive projects is the 3° Festival Internazionale di Chess Pong, scheduled from October 18–25, 2026 in Porcia. The festival combines a FIDE-rated classical chess tournament with a parallel table tennis competition. The chess event consists of nine rounds at 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move and includes Open A and Open B sections. The overall festival offers an €8,900 prize structure across its different activities. The event reflects the association’s broader approach of combining traditional tournament chess with innovative sporting and community projects.

🤝 Community Chess

Scacchistica Pordenonese actively uses chess as a social and educational activity. In addition to conventional tournaments, the association organizes events in senior residences, shopping centers, schools, and public venues. Its 2026 projects included chess activities connected with blood, organ, and bone-marrow donation awareness, as well as tournaments designed for older participants. The club therefore combines serious competitive chess with a strong local community role.

🏛️ Organization and Leadership

Michele Perricone is the current President of A.S.D. Scacchistica Pordenonese and its principal public contact. Current municipal and club sources confirm his leadership, while he also remains directly responsible for many of the organization’s competitive activities. The club’s current leadership also includes Walter Pajer as Vice President and Michele Licandro as Secretary, supported by a wider board and technical team.
