A.D. Scacchi Nettuno Gardolo/Trento is a long-established chess club based in Gardolo, Trento, Italy. Founded in 1981 as Circolo Scacchi e Dama Nettuno Gardolo, the club has developed into an important part of the chess community in Trentino. It combines competitive chess, youth and adult training, team competition, and tournament organization. The club has placed particular emphasis on chess education for many years. Regular youth activity has been organized since 2004, with courses divided according to age and playing level. Adult courses followed from 2008, including both introductory and more advanced training. Silvano Bortolotti is the current President. He leads the organization together with Vice President Claudio Todoro, Secretary Livio Taufer, and the wider club team.

🎓 Youth Chess and Training

Youth development is one of Nettuno Gardolo’s main activities. During the school year, the club provides several weekly training groups for junior players, while stronger participants can attend advanced sessions and individual training. The association also cooperates with schools and supports wider scholastic chess activity in Trentino. In May 2026, Nettuno Gardolo organized the Trentino U18 Championship in Gardolo. Around 70 young players competed for regional titles from U8 through U18, confirming the club’s continuing role in junior chess development.

♜ Team Chess

A.D. Scacchi Nettuno Gardolo participates regularly in the Campionato Italiano a Squadre, giving club members opportunities to represent the organization in national and regional team competition. For the 2026 CIS structure, Nettuno has multiple teams competing across Serie B and Serie C, demonstrating considerable depth within the club’s competitive membership. The club also achieved another positive result in spring 2026 when one of its teams earned promotion from the regional Promozione competition.

⚡ Tournaments and Events

Nettuno Gardolo organizes both federation-rated tournaments and more accessible community chess events. One of its current projects is Tut Gardol en Rapid! 2026, scheduled for September 13, 2026 at the club’s Gardolo venue. The FIDE-rated rapid tournament consists of seven Swiss rounds at 10 minutes plus a 5-second increment per move. It forms part of the wider Tut Gardol community festival. The club has also organized amateur tournaments during local festivals, creating opportunities for players who may not normally participate in official federation competition.

🤝 International Friendship

An unusual and long-running feature of the club is its partnership with the chess club of Neufahrn, Germany. The relationship began in 1982, only one year after Nettuno Gardolo was founded. The two clubs traditionally organize an annual team meeting, making the partnership one of the association’s longest-running activities.

Silvano Bortolotti is the current President of A.D. Scacchi Nettuno Gardolo/Trento. The club’s regular activities take place at its venue on Via Soprasasso in Gardolo, where members meet for lessons, training, casual play, tournaments, and team activities.
