Nottinghamshire Chess Association

Nottinghamshire Chess Association is the county chess organisation for Nottinghamshire, founded in 1922 and based in Nottingham. It coordinates local clubs, runs the Nottinghamshire League, and represents the county within the English Chess Federation. Today the association remains the central hub for competitive and social chess activity across the county.

The association organises three flagship weekend events each year: the Nottingham Congress, the Nottingham Rapidplay, and the County Championship. The Nottingham Congress is a long-running five-round standard-play festival with multiple rating-limited sections, hosted at Nottingham High School. Moreover, the association works with arbiters and volunteers to ensure smooth pairings, clear regulations, and a friendly environment.

In addition, Nottinghamshire Chess Association supports junior chess, county teams, and local initiatives that bring new players into clubs. It cooperates with schools, community partners, and event sponsors to widen participation and strengthen the regional chess scene. As a result, the association plays a key role in maintaining a vibrant, well-structured chess calendar for Nottinghamshire.
