Cyprus Chess Federation

The Cyprus Chess Federation (Κυπριακή Σκακιστική Ομοσπονδία – KYSO) serves as the official governing body for chess in Cyprus. Headquartered in Nicosia, the federation oversees national chess activities, develops local talent, and represents Cyprus in international competitions. KYSO consists of a network of chess clubs, acting as the unifying force that connects chess enthusiasts from all corners of the island.

KYSO organizes several key tournaments annually. The Cyprus Chess Championship, held since 1961, determines the national champion and is a cornerstone of the country's chess calendar. The federation also hosts the Cyprus Youth Chess Championship, the Cyprus Club Championship, and the Cyprus Rapid Championship, fostering the development of chess at all levels. Additionally, KYSO supports school-level competitions, such as the Cyprus Team School Chess Championship, promoting chess among younger generations.
