♟️ About Chess Federation of Osh Region and Osh City
Chess Federation of Osh Region and Osh City is the principal regional chess organization serving Osh and the surrounding Osh Region in southern Kyrgyzstan. The federation organizes championships, rapid and classical tournaments, youth competitions, international events, and qualification opportunities for players from one of the country’s most important chess regions. The organization works closely with the Kyrgyz Chess Union, the Osh city and regional sports authorities, educational institutions, and international partners. Its events range from local championships for developing players to major competitions attracting participants from across Kyrgyzstan and neighbouring countries. The federation is led by Adilet Attokurov, an active competitive chess player as well as an experienced organizer. Under his leadership, Osh has increasingly developed as a venue for large regional and international chess events.🏆 Osh City & Regional Championships
One of the federation’s core responsibilities is organizing championships for players from Osh city and Osh Region. These competitions provide structured classical chess for both men and women and help identify leading players from southern Kyrgyzstan. The federation works with local sports authorities to stage these events under recognized competition rules and with rating calculation where applicable. In the 2024 classical championship, more than 50 players competed across the men’s and women’s sections, demonstrating the active local tournament community. Regional championships also provide an important competitive pathway for younger and developing players. Strong performers can move from local tournaments into national events organized by the Kyrgyz Chess Union.⚡ White Rook International Tournament
The White Rook International Open Rapid Chess Tournament has developed into one of the federation’s signature events. The competition brings together children and adults in multiple age categories and is played according to FIDE rules using a nine-round Swiss system. The tournament has grown significantly in recent years. The 2025 edition attracted more than 300 players, including participants from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, China, Nigeria, and other countries, making it one of the largest chess events staged in the region. The series continues in 2026 with the fourth White Rook tournament, again bringing together several junior age groups and adult competitors. The event is organized by the Chess Federation of Osh Region and Osh City with support from partner organizations in Osh.🌟 Youth Chess & International Opportunities
Junior chess is an important part of the federation’s work. Children from Osh and the surrounding region participate in local age-group tournaments, national school championships, rapid competitions, and international events. The federation has also helped young players progress beyond domestic competition. In 2024, Kyrgyz representatives Rayana Smagulova and Aaly Ermekov achieved strong results at the World Games of Young Compatriots in Moscow, where the Kyrgyz team finished second overall. Winners and leading participants from the White Rook series have also earned opportunities to represent Kyrgyzstan internationally. This creates a clear connection between grassroots tournament activity in Osh and higher-level youth competition abroad.🏅 Mayor’s Cup & Regional Tournament Programme
The federation maintains an active calendar beyond its championship and youth events. A notable competition is the Osh Mayor’s Cup, organized together with the city sports authorities and attracting strong players from Kyrgyzstan and neighbouring countries. The 2026 Mayor’s Cup was played as a nine-round FIDE-rated rapid tournament in Osh, with Adilet Attokurov serving as Tournament Director. The starting field included leading Kyrgyz players as well as competitors from Uzbekistan. Veterans’ tournaments, memorial events, school competitions, rapid tournaments, and other community events further broaden the federation’s calendar. This variety allows children, adults, experienced players, and senior competitors to participate regularly throughout the year.🌏 Asian Seniors Chess Championships 2026
A major milestone came in October 2026, when Osh hosted the Asian Seniors Chess Championships for the first time. The event brought 74 players from 11 Asian countries to the city and included competitions for the 50+ and 65+ age categories. The championship featured classical, rapid, and blitz chess and was held under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE. The Kyrgyz Chess Union organized the event together with the chess federations of Osh city and Osh Region, with support from the Osh city administration. Adilet Attokurov served as Tournament Director. Hosting a continental championship represented an important step for Osh and demonstrated the region’s growing capacity to stage international chess events.👤 Adilet Attokurov & Regional Leadership
Adilet Attokurov serves as President of the Chess Federation of Osh Region and Osh City. He combines administrative work with active tournament participation and has represented the region in competitions inside Kyrgyzstan and abroad. In 2025, Attokurov produced a notable result at the Tashkent Open, finishing among the leading players in a field of 185 participants in the B tournament. He has also been involved in national chess administration and the organization of major events in southern Kyrgyzstan. The federation’s work is strengthened by cooperation with the Kyrgyz Chess Union, municipal and regional sports authorities, universities, schools, and international cultural organizations. These partnerships have helped Osh expand from a regional chess centre into a host city for increasingly significant international competitions.
