Schachclub Ortenburg 1894 e.V. is one of Bavaria’s oldest and most active chess clubs. Founded in 1894, the club has a rich history of promoting chess in the region. It offers regular training sessions for both adults and youth, fostering a welcoming environment for players of all skill levels.​

The club’s adult training sessions are held every Tuesday at 7:30 PM in the Kaminzimmer of the Hotel & Restaurant Zum Koch, located at Vorderhainberg 8, 94496 Ortenburg. Youth training takes place on Fridays from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM (except during school holidays) in the old town hall at the marketplace, signposted as the Red Cross practice room.​

Schachclub Ortenburg 1894 e.V. is renowned for organizing the annual Werner-Obermeyer-Open, a significant event that attracts players from across the region. The club also hosts various internal tournaments and participates in league competitions, contributing to a vibrant chess community in Ortenburg.​
