♟️ About Global School of Science, Bah

Global School of Science (GSS) is an educational institution and recurring chess organizer based in Bah, Agra district, Uttar Pradesh, India. The school operates from RS Science Park on Vikrampur Road and is part of the educational work of the Organisation for Science Innovations and Research (OSIR). GSS began its academic activity in 2019 and later received ICSE affiliation, while its wider program emphasizes scientific thinking, logical aptitude, creativity, and learning through practical experience. Chess has developed into an important part of the school’s extracurricular and competitive activities. The GSS campus includes an indoor play area with facilities for chess and other mind and indoor sports. More importantly, the school has built a recurring program of FIDE-rated and Uttar Pradesh state-level chess tournaments, turning its Bah campus into an established competition venue. Dr. Abhishek Pathak serves as Manager of Global School of Science and is closely involved in its chess activities. He has repeatedly served as Tournament Director for events hosted by GSS, including the current Lambardar Gya Prasad Memorial tournaments. Ram Sewak Sharma serves as Principal of the school, while tournament operations are supported by arbiters, technical officials, registration staff, and members of the regional chess community.

🏆 Tournaments & Chess Activities

Global School of Science has developed a recurring chess program centered on the Lambardar Gya Prasad Memorial series. These competitions have included FIDE-rated Rapid and Blitz tournaments as well as official Uttar Pradesh state championships. The school organizes the events in cooperation with chess authorities such as the UP Chess Sports Association (UPCSA) and, where applicable, the All India Chess Federation (AICF). The school hosted the 16th Uttar Pradesh Chess State U-13 FIDE-Rated Chess Championship for Open and Girls categories in 2022. It then staged the Lambardar Gya Prasad Memorial UP State FIDE-Rated Rapid and Blitz Championships in 2023. Both competitions returned in 2024, providing qualification opportunities connected with the corresponding national championships. The series continued in 2025 with the Lambardar Gya Prasad Memorial Open FIDE-Rated Rapid Chess Tournament. That edition again brought rated competitive chess to the GSS campus and strengthened the school’s position as a recurring tournament organizer rather than a one-time venue. For 2026, Global School of Science expanded the memorial weekend to include separate FIDE-rated Rapid and Blitz tournaments. The Rapid event runs over nine rounds at 25 minutes plus a 10-second increment, while the Blitz consists of nine rounds at 3 minutes plus a 2-second increment. Together, the two competitions offer a combined prize pool of ₹240,000.

🌱 Junior Chess & Development

Junior participation is particularly relevant to the school’s chess program. As an educational institution, GSS combines its regular academic work with sports and mind-game activities, while several of its chess tournaments include extensive age-category prizes. These categories give younger players additional competitive goals alongside the main overall standings. The school’s tournament history also includes the Uttar Pradesh State U-13 FIDE-Rated Championship, demonstrating direct involvement in organized junior chess. In addition, the Lambardar Gya Prasad Memorial events regularly attract a substantial number of young players and provide prizes across several age groups. Hosting FIDE-rated competition on a school campus gives local and regional juniors access to formal tournament conditions without requiring every player to travel to a major metropolitan center. Moreover, participants gain experience with FIDE regulations, rated pairings, qualified arbiters, technical meetings, and structured Swiss-system competition. Chess fits naturally within the wider educational approach of Global School of Science. The school emphasizes logical reasoning and problem-solving, while its campus facilities specifically include space for chess. Therefore, competitive chess functions as both a sporting activity and an extension of the institution’s broader focus on analytical development.

📚 History & Development

Global School of Science began operating from the 2019 academic year as a science-themed educational institution created within the wider work of the Organisation for Science Innovations and Research. The school later became affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), receiving ICSE affiliation in 2024. Its chess program has developed progressively alongside the school itself. State-level junior competition in 2022 was followed by state Rapid and Blitz championships in 2023 and 2024. The series then continued with an Open FIDE-rated Rapid event in 2025 and a combined Rapid and Blitz festival in 2026. This continuity is important for Global School of Science as a chess organizer. Rather than simply providing a hall for outside tournaments, the school appears repeatedly as the organizing institution in official tournament documentation. Dr. Abhishek Pathak and other members of the GSS team also hold defined organizational responsibilities. The Lambardar Gya Prasad Memorial FIDE Rated Rapid & Blitz Chess Tournament 2026, scheduled for October 31 and November 1, continues this development. It is organized directly by Global School of Science under the aegis of UPCSA and AICF, while Dr. Abhishek Pathak serves as Tournament Director.
