The Championnat Départemental d’Échecs Jeunes de Haute-Savoie 2026/2027 will take place in Le Grand-Bornand, Haute-Savoie, France, on November 14–15, 2026. Organized by the Comité Départemental du Jeu d’Échecs de Haute-Savoie (CDJE74), it is the official departmental youth championship and a qualifying stage for the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Youth Championship.

The championship consists of five separate age-category tournaments: U8, U10, U12, U14 and U16. The U10 through U16 competitions are six-round FIDE-rated Standard tournaments played over two days at 50 minutes + 10 seconds per move. U8 follows a different format, with seven Rapid rounds on Sunday at 25 minutes + 10 seconds per move.

Participation is governed by the French youth championship qualification pathway. Players must hold a valid FFE Licence A registered with a club in Haute-Savoie, while registration must be completed online in advance. The event awards departmental youth titles and determines qualification for the regional championship.

📍 Venue

Espace Grand-Bo – 217 Route de la Patinoire, 74450 Le Grand-Bornand, France.

The championship-specific information published by CDJE74, the French Chess Federation and the official registration page all uses this address for the tournament.

Espace Grand-Bo is a multi-purpose venue in Le Grand-Bornand Village, close to the village centre, public transport and recreation facilities. The venue is accessible to wheelchair users with assistance and has adapted toilet facilities.

A regulated car park next to Espace Grand-Bo and the ice rink provides 53 parking spaces. Additional regulated parking is available around the village centre.

A refreshment stand and light catering, including sandwiches and snacks, will be available during both championship days.

🏨 Accommodation

No official tournament accommodation package has been published. Families who want to stay close to Espace Grand-Bo can consider several hotels in the village centre.

Hotel Location / Notes
Hôtel et Spa Le Delta 136 Route de la Patinoire; particularly close to the tournament area
Hôtel La Pointe Percée 71 Place de la Grenette; central village location

Hotel availability and room prices should be checked directly for the tournament weekend, as no special championship rates have been announced.

🚆 How to Get There

From Annecy

Annecy is the principal rail and public-transport gateway to Le Grand-Bornand.

The Y62 and Y63 regional bus lines connect Annecy with Thônes and Le Grand-Bornand throughout the year.

Passengers can board at the Annecy bus station next to the railway station and travel directly toward Le Grand-Bornand. Families should check the timetable for November 14–15 before departure, since individual departure times can vary by day and season.

The service arrives at Le Grand-Bornand Gare Routière in the village centre, from where the tournament venue is nearby.

By Train

Players travelling from other parts of France can take an SNCF service to Annecy railway station and transfer to the Y62/Y63 bus.

Because U10–U16 check-in starts at 09:00 on Saturday, families travelling from farther away may find a Friday arrival more practical than relying on an early Saturday connection.

From Geneva Airport

Geneva Airport (GVA) is a practical international airport for reaching Haute-Savoie.

The cross-border Line 272 provides a direct connection between Geneva Airport and Annecy bus station. The current timetable is valid through December 12, 2026, so it covers the championship dates.

From Annecy, passengers can continue to Le Grand-Bornand on the Y62/Y63 regional service.

This route is more dependable for the November tournament than seasonal direct resort shuttles, which should not be assumed to operate outside their published seasons.

By Car

Drivers should use the tournament address:

Espace Grand-Bo – 217 Route de la Patinoire, 74450 Le Grand-Bornand, France.

The Espace Grand-Bo car park has 53 regulated spaces and is open throughout the year. Further regulated parking is available in the village centre.

Le Grand-Bornand is an Alpine destination at approximately 920 metres altitude. Families driving in mid-November should check weather and road conditions before departure and allow additional time if conditions deteriorate.
