♟️ About A.S.D. Scacchistica Oplonti

A.S.D. Scacchistica Oplonti is a chess association active in Torre Annunziata, Boscotrecase, and the wider Vesuvian area of Campania, Italy. The club is affiliated with the Federazione Scacchistica Italiana (FSI) under ID 4062. It combines national team competition, FIDE-rated tournaments, rapid chess, youth development, school programs, and community chess initiatives. The association has been active for many years, while Italy’s national sports register records its current sporting registration from November 19, 2009. Earlier 2009 reports already document Scacchistica Oplonti organizing important Campania competitions, including regional youth qualifiers and a regional stage of the Italian Individual Championship. Since then, the club has continued to develop tournament chess across the Vesuvian area. Gennaro Paduano currently serves as President and legal representative of A.S.D. Scacchistica Oplonti. The 2026 FSI register also lists Luigi Balzano, Sabatino Iavarone, Gustavo Olivieri, and Giovanni Vitiello on the current council. Paduano remains directly involved in team administration, tournament organization, and chess promotion. Therefore, he is the most appropriate principal Contact Person for the MyChess.Events organizer profile.

♜ Team Chess and Competitive Development

Team chess represents an important part of Scacchistica Oplonti’s competitive identity. The association competes nationally under the team name Torre Annunziata in the Campionato Italiano a Squadre. The club achieved a major result when Torre Annunziata won its Serie B group unbeaten and earned promotion to Serie A2. That success reflected a broader competitive structure, since Oplonti also entered several teams at lower levels to give more members access to national team competition. The association has maintained that position. For the 2026 Italian Team Championship, the FSI again lists Torre Annunziata in Serie A2, with Gennaro Paduano responsible for the club’s CIS administration. This national participation connects experienced players with younger members. Over the years, the club’s teams have included players such as Claudio Paduano, who later became a FIDE Master, alongside many established Campania competitors.

🏆 Tournament Organization

Tournament organization has remained one of A.S.D. Scacchistica Oplonti’s principal activities. The club organizes Standard and Rapid events while also collaborating with schools, municipalities, sporting associations, and other local institutions. Its 2026 calendar demonstrates this activity clearly. The association organized the 1° Torneo Rapid Oplonti in January, followed by a second edition in February and a third tournament in June. These events took place at the Istituto scolastico Alfieri in Torre Annunziata and counted for FIDE Rapid rating. In September 2026, Scacchistica Oplonti also organizes the Torneo del Golfo di Castellammare di Stabia together with Circolo Velico Stabia. That competition combines an eight-round FIDE-rated Rapid tournament with a Blitz playoff for the leading eight players. Moreover, the Blitz phase includes live transmission and commentary. The national sports register currently records 14 sporting events connected with the association during the 2026 sporting year. Therefore, Oplonti maintains a substantial tournament program rather than focusing only on its annual Vesuvio festival.

🌟 Vesuvio Chess Festival

The Vesuvio Chess Festival is the association’s flagship classical tournament. The festival began in 2014 as a parallel event to the Italian Individual Championship Final, which A.S.D. Scacchistica Oplonti organized in Boscotrecase. The festival subsequently developed into a recurring FIDE-rated weekend event under Mount Vesuvius. The series reached its 8th edition in 2025, when three separate tournaments brought players of different rating levels to Boscotrecase. The event returned again in 2026, confirming its place in the club’s long-term tournament calendar. A.S.D. Scacchistica Oplonti organizes the IX Vesuvio Chess Festival from November 6–8, 2026 at the Auditorium Scuola “Prisco”, Piazza Municipio, Boscotrecase. The festival consists of three sections. Tournament A is for players rated above 1900, Tournament B covers the 1500–1950 range, and Tournament C is designed for players rated 1500 and below. All sections use a five-round Swiss system with a classical time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move. In addition, the organizers advertise a total prize fund of €2,200. Entry payments go directly to an account held by A.S.D. Scacchistica Oplonti, while Gennaro Paduano handles tournament enquiries. Therefore, the club is unequivocally the organizer; the Municipality of Boscotrecase and the school venue should remain identified as local partners rather than replacing Oplonti on MyChess.Events.

🎓 School Chess and Youth Development

Chess education has also formed an important part of Scacchistica Oplonti’s community activity. The association has worked as an educational partner in Scuola Viva Campania projects. At the Istituto Comprensivo Samuele Falco in Scafati, Oplonti delivered a 30-hour chess module involving 30 students. More recently, the organization became a partner at the Secondo Circolo Oreste Lizzadri in Gragnano. That Gragnano project included both Scacchi a Scuola and Giocomotricità su Scacchiera Gigante modules. Each program provided 30 hours of activity for 25 students. Therefore, the club’s educational work includes both conventional chess instruction and more accessible introductory formats. Youth promotion remained visible in 2026. In March, FIDE Master Claudio Paduano gave a simultaneous exhibition against 20 young players at the Istituto Comprensivo Cangemi in Boscoreale. Sixteen school pupils and four young members of Scacchistica Oplonti participated. The association’s current membership also reflects a mixture of competitive and recreational chess. Italy’s sports register records 27 competitive FSI members and 10 recreational/practicing members for the 2026 season.

🤝 Chess Across the Vesuvian Area

Although the association has historical roots in Torre Annunziata, its current activity extends across several communities around Mount Vesuvius. The FSI currently lists the organization at Via Lepanto 27 in Boscotrecase, while several of its 2026 tournaments take place at the Istituto scolastico Alfieri in Torre Annunziata. The Vesuvio Chess Festival uses a municipal venue in Boscotrecase, and the September rapid event extends the club’s activity to Castellammare di Stabia. This geographical spread reflects the association’s wider regional role. Oplonti works with schools, municipalities, sports clubs, and community organizations while maintaining its own FSI affiliation and tournament structure. As a result, A.S.D. Scacchistica Oplonti functions both as a competitive chess club and as an organizer that brings rated chess, youth activities, and public chess events to several communities around the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.
