♟️ About A.D. Scacchi l’Avamposto

A.D. Scacchi l’Avamposto is a chess association based in Porto Sant’Elpidio, Marche, Italy. Founded in 1998, the club is affiliated with the Federazione Scacchistica Italiana and combines competitive team chess, FIDE-rated tournament organization, junior development, school programs, coaching, and regular community chess. Its permanent playing base is inside Villa Baruchello, where members meet on Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons.

The association maintains an unusually active tournament calendar for a local club. Its recurring events include the Week-End Scacchistico Città di Porto Sant’Elpidio, ELPI Chess, Semilampo IGLOO, Semilampo and Lampo Croce Verde, junior competitions, and Italian Team Chess Championship activity. Moreover, L’Avamposto has worked with local schools since 2004 through its Scacchi a Scuola program, preparing young players for individual competition and the Trofeo Scacchi Scuola pathway.

Roberto Gasparroni is the current President and one of the club’s founders, making him the most appropriate primary organizational contact. Roberto Miandro remains another central figure as a National Instructor, tournament organizer, and team official. In 2026, the club has already staged ELPI Chess, the IGLOO rapid event, Croce Verde competition, and national team chess, while its major upcoming project is the 27° Week-End Scacchistico Città di Porto Sant’Elpidio, scheduled for November 27–29, 2026.

📜 History and Development

A.D. Scacchi l’Avamposto was established in 1998 by Roberto Gasparroni and a group of local chess enthusiasts. The club’s own tournament archive begins that same year with the first Week-End Città di Porto Sant’Elpidio and the first Open San Filippo.

Over the following decades, the association developed a broad program extending well beyond ordinary club meetings. It has organized provincial and regional championships, youth tournaments, team competitions, classical opens, rapid and blitz events, and educational activities.

The club has also accumulated experience with major youth chess. Its organizational history includes involvement with the European Youth Chess Championship U18 held in Fermo in 2009, alongside numerous regional and provincial junior events.

🎓 Chess Training and Youth Development

Chess education has been a major part of L’Avamposto’s work since 2004, when the association began its Scacchi a Scuola project.

School courses normally combine theoretical instruction with practical play. Students first learn the rules and basic principles, then progress to tournament procedures and the use of chess clocks. Where possible, school teams continue into the Trofeo Scacchi Scuola competition structure.

Roberto Miandro is one of the club’s principal instructors and holds the SNAQ qualification of Istruttore Nazionale – Tutor. He has taught chess since 2001 and has worked in school chess since 2004.

The association continues to organize dedicated junior competition. Its 2026 program includes the 9° Open Giovanile in October and the 18° Torneo Junior on November 29, providing further competitive opportunities for young players.

♜ Team Chess

L’Avamposto has a substantial history in the Campionato Italiano a Squadre (CIS) and has previously reached Serie A1.

The club achieved an important recent result in March 2025, when Avamposto Proloco 1 won its Serie B group with four victories from four matches. The result secured promotion to Serie A2 for the 2026 season.

The successful lineup included Michele Sagripanti, Stefano Ferri, Flavio Borgiani, and Sergio Rinaudo, with Roberto Miandro and other club members supporting the team program.

This team activity complements L’Avamposto’s individual tournaments and provides experienced club players with access to higher-level national competition.

🏆 2026 Tournament Activity

The club opened 2026 with the 5° ELPI Chess tournament on January 24–25. It then participated in the 57th Italian Team Chess Championship in March.

On May 23, L’Avamposto organized the 6° Torneo di Scacchi Semilampo “IGLOO”, followed by the 13° Semilampo Croce Verde on July 4. These recurring events form part of a tournament program that mixes classical, rapid, blitz, and junior chess.

The principal remaining event is the 27° Week-End Scacchistico Città di Porto Sant’Elpidio, scheduled for November 27–29, 2026 at Croce Verde in Porto Sant’Elpidio.

The FIDE-rated Open will use five Swiss-system rounds with a time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move. The published prize fund is €1,200, and the organizers plan to broadcast games from seven electronic boards.

🏛️ Club Life and Organization

L’Avamposto operates from Villa Baruchello on Via Belvedere in Porto Sant’Elpidio. Regular opening hours are Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons.

The venue supports chess lessons, club play, analysis, preparation, and informal games. The association also conducts activities outside its premises through schools, public events, and courses in neighboring communities.
