♟️ About Club d’Échecs de Panazol
Club d’Échecs de Panazol is a chess association based in Panazol, immediately east of Limoges in Haute-Vienne, France. The club affiliates with the Fédération Française des Échecs (FFE) under code O87053. It provides chess instruction, competitive play, team chess, tournaments, free-play sessions, and activities designed for players of different ages and abilities. The association was officially created on May 28, 2024, and joined the Fédération Française des Échecs on October 2, 2024. It also belongs to the Comité Départemental du Jeu d’Échecs de la Haute-Vienne and the Ligue d’Échecs de Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Despite its recent establishment, the club has already developed a substantial program of tournaments and weekly activities. Sandrine Proupin serves as President and principal public contact. Under her leadership, the club emphasizes learning, competitive development, accessibility, and a welcoming social environment. The FFE currently records 18 Licence A and 48 Licence B members at Panazol.🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Activity
Tournament organization has quickly become an important part of Club d’Échecs de Panazol’s activity. The club launched the Rapide d’Échecs de Panazol in 2025, and the first edition attracted 70 players. The club followed with the 2ème Rapide d’Échecs de Panazol in June 2026. Players competed over seven rapid rounds at 15 minutes plus three seconds per move. Therefore, the event provides an accessible one-day competition alongside the club’s longer classical tournaments. Panazol also created the Festival d’Échecs Roque N’Panazol in 2025. The festival combines several FIDE-rated classical tournaments within one weekend and gives players opportunities to compete in compact groups against similarly rated opposition. The 2ème Festival d’Échecs Roque N’Panazol 2026 runs from October 30 to November 1 at the Centre Culturel Jean Cocteau. Its program includes several closed tournaments and the Open Fischer, which uses seven Swiss-system rounds. Sandrine Proupin serves as organizer, while Alain Lucazeau acts as arbiter.♜ Team Chess and Player Development
Club d’Échecs de Panazol participates in official French team competition. During the 2025/26 season, its adult team competed in Régionale 1 Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The FFE also lists Panazol in regional youth team competition. Consequently, developing players can progress from lessons and club games into formal matches against other chess organizations. Weekly club activity supports this development. The organization offers learning opportunities for beginners as well as improvement sessions for players who want to strengthen their competitive skills. Moreover, members can use free-play sessions to practice between tournaments and team matches. The club welcomes children from approximately eight years old, teenagers, adults, beginners, and established tournament players. Its program therefore combines recreational chess with a clear route toward rated competition.♿ Inclusive Chess and Accessibility
Accessibility is a defining part of Club d’Échecs de Panazol’s approach. The club explicitly welcomes players with disabilities and adapts activities when participants require additional support. The Fédération Française des Échecs highlighted Panazol in 2026 for its work on inclusive chess. The club cooperates with the Réseau des Villes Amicales pour l’Autisme (RVAA) and has undertaken training to improve the way volunteers welcome and support autistic players. During its first rapid tournament, the club arranged dedicated assistance so that a 16-year-old player with tetraplegia could participate under suitable conditions. During the first Roque N’Panazol Festival, organizers also worked with an autistic player, his family, tournament officials, and RVAA professionals to adapt his playing environment and provide assistance with notation. Therefore, the club’s motto, “Notre force, c’est notre différence !”, reflects practical measures rather than only a general statement of inclusion.🤝 Chess Education and Community Activity
The club also promotes chess beyond formal tournament competition. Its stated mission includes introducing the game to newcomers, providing improvement sessions, and organizing themed activities for members. In 2025, Club d’Échecs de Panazol initiated a chess-themed cultural exhibition at the Médiathèque de Panazol. The project explored the history and evolution of chess pieces and included activities for local school pupils. Moreover, the club combines federation chess with public and community initiatives around Panazol and the wider Limoges area. These activities help introduce chess to people who may not yet participate in a traditional club environment. Regular activities take place at the Ancienne Amicale de Soudanas in Panazol. The FFE confirms that the venue is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
