♟️ About PST Trier – Schachabteilung
PST Trier – Schachabteilung is the chess department of Post-Sportverein Trier e.V., a multi-sport association based in Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The department runs regular chess training, league teams, youth programs, and tournaments. Its main chess activities take place at the PST Trier facilities on Ausoniusstraße 5, 54292 Trier. The official PST Trier profile records the chess department’s establishment in 1989. Today, it has approximately 80 members. As part of Post-Sportverein Trier, the chess section benefits from the infrastructure of an association that offers more than 30 different sports while maintaining its own chess leadership and competitive program. Frank Görgen serves as Chairman of the chess department. In addition, he works directly with children and junior players as a youth trainer. Richard Roscheck serves as Deputy Chairman, while Toni Krüger handles tournament direction. Therefore, the department combines club administration, competition management, and player development within a dedicated chess team.🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Activity
PST Trier organizes chess events for both club members and visiting players. One of its distinctive competitions is the Trierer Blitzmarathon, a long-format blitz event that challenges players across many hours of fast chess. The Trierer 12h Blitzmarathon 2026 appears in the official tournament calendar of the Deutscher Schachbund. The chess department of PST Trier is explicitly named as the organizer. Moreover, the tournament takes place at the PST Trier Clubhouse on Ausoniusstraße 5. The format combines a full day of blitz chess with scheduled breaks and a final award ceremony. Entry is limited, which helps the organizer manage a demanding multi-round competition efficiently. In addition, PST Trier publishes tournament registration and results through its dedicated Trier chess results service. The department also organizes other local events. Its recent program has included Sommer-Schach Trier, youth competitions, city championship activities, and additional rapid or blitz events. Consequently, players can find competitive opportunities outside the regular league calendar.♜ Team Chess and Regional Competition
Team chess forms an important part of PST Trier’s competitive activity. The department fields several teams across the regional league structure and competes within Schachbezirk Trier and the wider Rhineland-Palatinate chess system. The club’s current structure includes teams at several playing levels. This gives stronger players access to demanding regional competition while also creating opportunities for developing members to gain regular match experience. For official team competition, PST Trier also appears in federation records as part of SG PST-Trier / Bernkastel-Kues. The cooperation expands the player pool and supports several teams across different divisions. Moreover, PST Trier has achieved strong results in regional competition. Its teams regularly compete against clubs from Trier, Schweich, Konz, Wittlich, and other communities in the region. Team chess therefore remains a central pathway from club training to formal competition.🎓 Youth Chess and Player Development
Youth chess is one of the department’s strongest areas of emphasis. PST Trier provides regular junior training and states that chess activities are available from a very young age. Frank Görgen combines his role as chairman with direct responsibility for children’s and youth training. The department reports that its youth program has produced Rhineland and Rhineland-Palatinate champions, as well as players who have participated in German championships and international championship events. A particularly notable achievement came in 2014, when four girls connected with the department won the German school chess championship as the four-player girls’ team of Auguste-Viktoria-Gymnasium Trier. In addition, PST Trier organizes dedicated events for children and teenagers. Its summer chess programs and youth city championships provide longer-time-control tournament experience alongside regular training. Therefore, young members can progress from introductory chess to rated and championship competition within the regional system.🤝 Club Life and the Trier Chess Community
PST Trier combines structured competition with regular club activity. The chess department provides both youth sessions and an evening playing environment for adult and experienced players. As a result, members can train, play casual games, prepare for league matches, and participate in internal or open tournaments. The department also works within the wider Schachbezirk Trier network. Regional calendars connect PST Trier players with championship events, youth competitions, league matches, and tournaments throughout the Trier area. At the same time, its position inside Post-Sportverein Trier gives the chess department access to an established sports organization and permanent facilities. This combination supports regular chess activity while allowing the department to organize larger events such as the Trierer Blitzmarathon.
