🎓 Chess Training and Club Activity

Chess instruction is an established part of Scacchi Cormonese’s weekly schedule. The club offers a dedicated Under-18 course, giving younger players an opportunity to learn chess fundamentals, improve their calculation and strategic understanding, and prepare for competitive play. Adult education is supported through cooperation with Università della Terza Età di Cormòns (UNITRE). The 2025–2026 academic program continued this partnership, while the club reserves Tuesday sessions specifically for UNITRE chess courses. Thursday and Saturday sessions are open more broadly. These meetings allow members and visitors to play friendly games, analyze positions, prepare for tournaments, and meet other players from the Cormòns chess community.

♜ Team Chess and Regional Competition

A.S.D. Scacchi Cormonese competes within the Campionato Italiano a Squadre (CIS), Italy’s national team championship system. The Italian Chess Federation confirmed Cormonese for Serie C in 2026, with Luca Cicogna listed as the responsible team representative. The club’s participation brings its players into competition with established teams from Friuli-Venezia Giulia and neighboring areas. The club is also active in regional rapid competition. During 2026, its players participated in the Gorizia Grand Prix, where Marco Gregorig won the individual overall classification. Scacchi Cormonese also won the team trophy as the leading club in the Gorizia-area series. These activities complement the club’s own events and provide members with regular competitive opportunities throughout the year.

🏆 Rapid Chess Tournament “Città di Cormòns”

The Rapid Chess Tournament “Città di Cormòns” is the club’s principal recurring public tournament. The competition is held during the Festa dell’Uva, connecting organized chess with one of Cormòns’ best-known annual community celebrations. The 4th edition took place on September 21, 2025. The tournament used nine rounds of rapid chess and attracted players from the surrounding region. The 5th edition is scheduled for September 20, 2026, at Sala Italia, Viale Friuli 28, Cormòns. It will consist of nine Swiss-system rounds with a time control of 10 minutes plus five seconds per move. The tournament is officially rated and open to players registered with the Italian Chess Federation. Participation is limited to 80 players, with advance registration recommended. Four rounds will be played during the morning session and five during the afternoon.

🏛️ Organization and Leadership

Luca Cicogna is the current President of A.S.D. Scacchi Cormonese. The Italian Chess Federation also lists Claudio Cucut, Marco Gregorig, Adriano Medves, and Maurizio Paselli as members of the club’s current governing committee. The association maintains its club base on Via Antonio Gramsci in Cormòns. Its combination of youth coaching, adult chess education, open club sessions, team competition, and rated tournament organization provides a regular structure for chess activity in the local Gorizia area.
