Rödeby Schackklubb is a long-established chess club based in Rödeby, within Karlskrona Municipality in southern Sweden. The club provides regular opportunities for local players to meet, practice, and compete in over-the-board chess. Its activities welcome experienced competitors, developing club players, juniors, and visitors from other chess organizations.

The club is affiliated with the Swedish chess system and participates in both regional and national competition. Rödeby SK fields teams in organized league chess and regularly takes part in events administered by Blekinge Schackförbund and Sveriges Schackförbund. Therefore, members can combine local club play with official individual and team competitions.

Rödeby Schackklubb holds many of its regular activities at Rödeby Centrumhus, located near Rödeby Torg. The venue supports club tournaments, evening competitions, team matches, and social chess. The organization maintains an active local program while also helping to develop competitive chess across Blekinge.

The club organizes a varied program of standard, rapid, and blitz chess throughout the year. Recurring activities include the Rödeby Vårcup, summer blitz competitions, rapid tournaments, autumn chess events, and internal club championships. Several competitions are registered for official rating when the required conditions are met.

Rödeby Schackklubb also welcomes players from outside the club to many of its tournaments. This open approach allows local members to face a wider range of opponents while helping visiting players discover the chess community in Rödeby and Karlskrona.

In addition, the club’s players compete in Swedish team leagues and regional Blekinge competitions. The program gives members regular access to serious tournament games, shorter evening events, and team-based chess during the competitive season.

🌍 Rödeby Open

The club’s principal tournament is the Rödeby Open, a long-running weekend competition that attracts players from Rödeby, Karlskrona, Blekinge, and other parts of Sweden. The tournament returned to the Swedish chess schedule in 2024 and quickly attracted a strong field.

Rödeby Open uses a mixed format that combines rapid and classical rounds. This structure gives participants several shorter games at the beginning of the tournament before moving into longer standard-rated encounters. The event is registered for both FIDE rapid and standard rating.

The Rödeby Open 2026 takes place from July 24 to 26 at Aspero Idrottsgymnasium in Karlskrona. It features seven Swiss-system rounds, cash prizes, rating-group awards, and places for up to 85 registered participants. Through this event and its year-round club program, Rödeby Schackklubb continues to support active tournament chess in Blekinge.
