♟️ About Chinese Taipei Chess Association

Chinese Taipei Chess Association (CTCA) is the national organization responsible for developing and administering international chess in Taiwan. Established in 2003, the association promotes over-the-board chess, coordinates official competitions, supports player development, and represents Chinese Taipei within the international chess community.

CTCA became a member of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in 2004. In 2008, it also joined Taiwan’s national sports and Olympic structures. These affiliations allow the association to coordinate official international participation, national-team selection, player registration, and other federation-level chess activities.

The association is based in Taipei and works with regional chess committees, city associations, academies, coaches, arbiters, and tournament organizers across Taiwan. Through this network, CTCA helps create opportunities for children, youth players, adults, titled competitors, and national representatives.

🏆 National and International Chess

The association’s principal responsibilities include promoting chess, organizing national championships and international tournaments, training representative players, and developing qualified coaches and arbiters. It also manages official regulations, membership procedures, FIDE ID applications, domestic player records, and national rating information.

CTCA organizes and supports competitions for different ages and playing levels. Its program includes national selection events, youth championships, school competitions, open tournaments, and international events. In addition, the association prepares players to represent Chinese Taipei at FIDE and Asian competitions, including youth championships, continental events, and Chess Olympiads.

The organization also develops the technical side of chess through coach and arbiter education. Training courses, certification procedures, specialist committees, and official operational guidelines help maintain consistent standards at tournaments throughout Taiwan.

🌍 CTCA International Chess Open

The CTCA International Chess Open is one of the association’s principal international competitions. The event brings overseas and Taiwanese players together for FIDE-rated standard and blitz chess. It also combines open competition with extensive youth participation.

The 2026 edition takes place in Kaohsiung and is organized by the Chinese Taipei Chess Association with the Kaohsiung Chess Committee serving as host. Its program includes an unrestricted Open section and separate open and girls’ categories from Under 7 through Under 19.

The tournament uses a nine-round Swiss system for the standard competition and includes a separate nine-round blitz event. Alongside the games, the program features opening and closing ceremonies, an official banquet, and services for international participants. Therefore, the event offers young players, families, established competitors, and titled players a complete international tournament experience in Taiwan.
