♟️ About Federação de Xadrez do Amapá
Federação de Xadrez do Amapá, commonly known as FEXAP, is the state governing body for organized chess in Amapá, Brazil. Based in Macapá, the federation coordinates chess competitions, player development, official ratings, and tournament organization. It also handles cooperation with the Brazilian Chess Confederation. The organization was formally established in 1999. It works with chess clubs, schools, arbiters, tournament directors, public institutions, and local partners throughout the state. Moreover, FEXAP promotes chess as a competitive, educational, and community activity for children, juniors, adults, women, seniors, and players with different levels of experience. National Master Marcos Paulo de Souza Monteiro serves as federation president.🏆 State Championships and Player Development
FEXAP manages an extensive annual program of classical, rapid, and blitz chess. Its main competitions include the Amapá Absolute Chess Championship, Amapá Rapid Chess Championship, Amapá Blitz Chess Championship, rating-category tournaments, women’s events, junior championships, and school competitions. In addition, the federation organizes qualification stages and recurring circuits. These allow players to compete regularly throughout the year. Selected tournaments count for Brazilian Chess Confederation and FIDE ratings when the required technical conditions are met. The federation also supports arbiter development, tournament administration, and chess instruction. Furthermore, it creates opportunities for Amapá players to participate in regional and national championships.🌎 National Events and Chess Promotion
Federação de Xadrez do Amapá works to strengthen Macapá’s position within the Brazilian chess circuit. It has organized state championships, Northern Region competitions, simultaneous exhibitions, school events, and public chess activities in partnership with local institutions. In 2026, FEXAP organizes the I Aberto do Brasil de Xadrez Estado do Amapá, the first Brazilian Open of its kind held in the state. The FIDE- and CBX-rated classical tournament aims to bring leading players to Macapá and promote sporting exchange. It also seeks to qualify eligible competitors for the final of the Brazilian Absolute Chess Championship. Through these projects, the federation connects grassroots development with official national competition. It also promotes Amapá as an emerging chess destination in northern Brazil.
