♟️ About Club Deportivo OneChess

Club Deportivo OneChess is an active chess club based in Arrecife on the island of Lanzarote, Spain. The club also competes and promotes some of its activities under the name Lanzaloe OneChess, reflecting its cooperation with the local Lanzaloe brand. It brings together children, junior players, adults, experienced competitors, and chess enthusiasts from across the island.

The club supports both competitive and educational chess. Its players regularly participate in island and regional championships, team competitions, rapid events, and blitz tournaments. Moreover, OneChess works with local sports authorities, chess organizations, cultural institutions, and private partners. These relationships help the club expand access to organized chess in Lanzarote.

In 2026, OneChess players achieved several leading results in the Lanzarote individual championships. Club representatives won the absolute, women’s, junior, and senior categories. Therefore, the club has established a strong competitive presence within the island’s chess community.

🎓 Chess School and Junior Development

Junior development forms an important part of the club’s activities. In January 2026, OneChess presented the chess school connected with Sociedad Democracia in Arrecife. The project provides continuous chess instruction for children and young players.

The school combines chess training with broader educational goals. Students develop concentration, strategic thinking, respect, patience, and responsible decision-making. In addition, the program aims to create an accessible and enjoyable environment where beginners can learn gradually.

OneChess intends the school to become a stable reference point for youth chess in Lanzarote. Consequently, the club supports players from their first lessons through to formal competitions and regional championships.

🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Activities

Club Deportivo OneChess organizes rapid and blitz tournaments in Arrecife. One of its principal events is the Lanzaloe–OneChess tournament series, which forms part of the competitive chess program in the Canary Islands.

The first Lanzaloe–OneChess Rapid Tournament took place in October 2025 at Sociedad Democracia. It attracted 91 players from Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, and Fuerteventura. Titled players and promising juniors competed together, while participants highlighted the tournament’s organization and welcoming atmosphere.

The 2026 festival expands the program by combining FIDE-rated blitz and rapid competitions. Club Deportivo OneChess leads the organization, while several regional and local partners support the event. Antonio Martín Fernández serves as tournament director, and International Arbiter Pablo A. Arranz Martín leads the arbiting team.

🤝 Cooperation in Lanzarote Chess

OneChess works closely with the Canary Islands Chess Federation and the Lanzarote Chess Delegation. It also cooperates with Sociedad Democracia, the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Arrecife City Council, and other local partners.

Through these partnerships, the club contributes to island championships, youth development, chess promotion, and open tournaments. Moreover, its members represent Lanzarote in regional competitions across the Canary Islands. The club therefore combines tournament organization, player development, and community-based chess activities.
