FC Deetz Chess

♟️ About FC Deetz Chess

FC Deetz Chess is the chess section of FC Deetz e.V., a multi-sport club based in Deetz, part of Groß Kreutz (Havel) in Brandenburg, Germany. The chess section was established at the beginning of 2019 and has since developed into an increasingly active regional chess community. It welcomes children, juniors, adults, beginners, recreational players, and experienced tournament competitors. Christian Rauhut and Oliver Giese lead the chess section. Together, they coordinate training, team competition, tournament participation, and the development of new chess activities. Moreover, the section maintains regular playing opportunities in both Deetz and Potsdam, allowing it to reach players beyond the immediate local community. FC Deetz combines structured chess development with an accessible club atmosphere. Players can learn the game, receive regular training, compete for club teams, and participate in regional or national tournaments. In addition, the organization supports members who want to develop from recreational chess toward serious federation competition.

🏆 Deetzer Open and Tournament Activities

The principal tournament series organized by FC Deetz Chess is the Deetzer Open. Tournament activity began early in the section’s development. The club already organized the Deetzer SommerOpen in 2019, while the Deetzer Frühlings-ELO-Open followed in 2023. The rapid series then developed further with the 3rd Deetzer Schnellschach Open in 2024 and the 4th edition in 2025. Consequently, the tournament has become a recurring competition for players from Brandenburg, Berlin, and neighboring regions. FC Deetz continues the series with the 5th Deetzer Rapid Chess Open 2026 on September 26, 2026. The tournament takes place at the sports complex in Deetz and features nine rounds of rapid chess. The club also supports members who enter external classical, rapid, blitz, youth, and amateur competitions. Therefore, its tournament activity extends well beyond the events it organizes directly.

🎓 Chess Training and Youth Development

Youth development is one of the strongest areas of FC Deetz Chess. The organization currently provides weekly chess training at two locations. In Deetz, training takes place every Tuesday at the Sporthaus am Parkstadion. Children train from 17:00 to 19:00, followed by adult training from 19:00 to 21:00. The section has also expanded into Potsdam. Weekly training takes place at Treffpunkt Freizeit, where coach Rolf Trenner works with participants in a structured but welcoming environment. This expansion gives children and families additional access to organized chess. Moreover, young FC Deetz players regularly compete in regional, state, and national competitions. The section has already produced notable junior results. In 2026, an FC Deetz player won the Brandenburg Girls U12 Championship with a perfect 9/9 score. Other juniors represented the club at the German Individual Youth Championship and numerous regional tournaments.

♜ Team Chess and Competitive Development

FC Deetz has made rapid progress in organized team chess. During the 2025–26 season, the club won its Regionalliga competition and earned promotion to the Landesklasse. The promotion represents an important milestone for a chess section founded only a few years earlier. The club subsequently strengthened its squad for the higher division. Experienced players joining the team included FM Vladimir Schilow, former Bundesliga player Dirk Paulsen, and Adis Artukovic, who previously competed for Lasker Steglitz at 2. Bundesliga level. Team captain Reinhard Müller also remains an important part of the competitive structure, while established FC Deetz players continue to represent the organization on the remaining boards. Consequently, the section now combines grassroots chess and junior development with increasingly ambitious senior team competition.

🌱 Growth and Community Chess

FC Deetz Chess has grown steadily since its creation in 2019. The organization began with regular chess evenings in Deetz. However, increasing interest led to dedicated youth sessions, additional coaching, broader tournament participation, and eventually a second training location in Potsdam. The section also participates in open days and other FC Deetz community activities. These events give residents an opportunity to discover chess without immediately committing to competitive play. Moreover, the wider FC Deetz organization supports youth work and community sport as part of its official non-profit mission. Chess therefore operates alongside the club’s other sports while maintaining its own training structure, competitive teams, tournaments, and dedicated website. The combination of accessible training, active tournament participation, youth development, and ambitious team chess has allowed FC Deetz Chess to establish a growing presence within Brandenburg chess.

📜 History and Development

The FC Deetz chess section was founded at the beginning of 2019. Christian Rauhut and Oliver Giese took responsibility for developing the new section and initially invited both experienced players and complete beginners to regular training in the club’s Sporthaus. Tournament activity followed quickly. The organization staged a summer youth tournament during its first year and later expanded into Elo-rated and recurring rapid competitions. During the following years, the section increased its youth activity and entered organized team competition. In addition, members began representing FC Deetz at tournaments throughout Brandenburg, Berlin, and elsewhere in Germany. A further expansion came with the establishment of regular chess training in Potsdam. Meanwhile, sporting success accelerated, culminating in promotion from the Regionalliga to the Landesklasse in 2026. FC Deetz Chess therefore combines a relatively young organizational history with rapid sporting development. From its beginnings in 2019, it has grown into a club section with two training locations, successful juniors, a competitive league team, and its own recurring open tournament.
