♟️ About the Organizer

Allan de Arriada Gattass is a Brazilian FIDE Master, tournament organizer, and active competitive player from Rio Grande do Sul. He was born in Pelotas and is currently based in Guaíba.

Allan has competed in Brazilian chess for more than two decades. FIDE awarded him the FIDE Master title in 2013. During his career, he reached a peak classical rating above 2300 and participated in major state and national competitions.

He won the Rio Grande do Sul Absolute Chess Championship in 2007. Moreover, he has remained active in classical, rapid, and blitz events. In 2024, he won the Rio Grande do Sul State Blitz Championship.

His experience as a strong tournament player influences his approach to event organization. He understands the practical requirements of competitors, including clear schedules, reliable arbiting, suitable playing conditions, rating registration, and effective communication before the event.

🏆 Gambito Vilão Chess Festival

Allan is the creator and one of the principal organizers of the recurring Gambito Vilão chess festival in Guaíba. The event combines competitive chess with entertainment and a distinctive social atmosphere.

The festival normally includes separate FIDE- and CBX-rated rapid and blitz tournaments. It welcomes titled players, experienced club competitors, juniors, amateurs, and visitors from different parts of Brazil.

Unlike a conventional tournament held only inside a playing hall, Gambito Vilão combines chess with live music, food, refreshments, and social activities. Therefore, participants can compete seriously while also enjoying a full-day community event.

The second edition took place in September 2025 and offered a total prize fund of R$4,000. Allan organized the event with Lucas Ramos da Silva, while Andreia Gattass served as Event Director.

The third Gambito Vilão is scheduled for October 3, 2026. The program again includes rapid and blitz chess and increases the announced total prize fund to R$5,000.

Allan works with qualified arbiters, sponsors, local businesses, volunteers, and other chess organizers. This cooperation helps the festival provide official rating conditions while preserving its informal and welcoming identity.

🌱 Competitive Chess and Community Promotion

Alongside his organizing work, Allan continues to compete regularly. His participation gives younger and lower-rated players an opportunity to face an experienced FIDE Master in open tournaments across southern Brazil.

He has also supported chess lectures, exhibitions, and promotional activities. These initiatives help connect competitive players with schools, local communities, and people who may be discovering over-the-board chess for the first time.

Allan promotes events through social media and direct communication with the Brazilian chess community. He also cooperates with regional clubs, arbiters, federations, and independent organizers.

Through the Gambito Vilão series, Allan has created an event that presents chess as both a serious competitive sport and a social experience. The combination of rated tournaments, strong players, entertainment, and hospitality has given the festival a recognizable identity within the Rio Grande do Sul chess program.
