♟️ About the Organizer
Šachový Klub Za Vodou Frenštát p.R., z.s. is a chess association based in Frenštát pod Radhoštěm, Czech Republic. The club operates from Klub Za Vodou, a local restaurant and community venue on Závodí Street.
The association was formally registered at the end of 2025. However, its organizers had already been running chess tournaments at the venue before the independent club was established.
MUDr. Petr Tkadleček serves as Chairman of the association. Lumír Formánek serves as Vice-Chairman and manages the club’s principal tournaments. The executive committee also includes Ing. Ladislav Formánek as Treasurer.
The club aims to organize individual and team competitions, chess training, lectures, educational activities, and events for children and adults. It also works to make chess more visible within Frenštát pod Radhoštěm and the surrounding Beskid region.
🏆 Radegastovna Rapid and Other Tournaments
The organization runs the recurring Radegastovna Rapid Frenštát series. These one-day competitions take place throughout the year and attract players from Moravia, Silesia, Slovakia, and other nearby chess communities.
The rapid tournaments usually use a time control of 12 minutes plus three seconds per move. The number of rounds may vary between individual editions. Therefore, players should always check the current event announcement before registering.
Lumír Formánek serves as tournament director for the series. Meanwhile, experienced Czech arbiter Ivan Kroček regularly serves as chief arbiter.
The club also organizes the New Year Rapid Tournament and the AIR OPEN Frenštát pod Radhoštěm. The AIR OPEN provides a larger rapid competition and has attracted titled players together with experienced club competitors and local participants.
The club’s events generally welcome both registered chess players and amateurs. Several tournaments have included members representing the new Za Vodou chess association, which helps local players gain practical competitive experience.
🌱 Local Chess and Community Activities
Klub Za Vodou provides a relaxed setting for chess tournaments and community activities. Players can compete in the same venue while using the restaurant’s food and refreshment services.
The tournament program gives local players access to regular over-the-board competition without travelling to a larger city. At the same time, visiting participants can combine chess with a trip to Frenštát pod Radhoštěm and the Beskid foothills.
The association plans to support chess education, junior development, training sessions, and cooperation with schools and the wider public. These activities can create a pathway from informal local chess to structured tournament participation.
Through frequent rapid competitions and its community-based venue, Šachový Klub Za Vodou Frenštát continues to develop an accessible chess meeting point in the Moravian-Silesian Region.
