Twierdza Mokotów was already organizing public chess tournaments in Warsaw during 2025 and expanded its competitive program substantially in 2026. On March 26, 2026, the Polish Chess Federation formally admitted UKS Twierdza Mokotów as an ordinary member. The club now operates from its premises at Powsińska 106 in Warsaw, where it hosts training sessions, weekend tournaments, holiday activities, and FIDE-rated competitions. Its tournament calendar creates a pathway from introductory classification events through to strong international round-robin chess. IM Zbigniew Strzemiecki is the club’s principal chess leader, coach, and tournament organizer and is officially listed by the Polish Chess Federation as the club manager. Beginners can learn tournament procedures and work toward Polish chess categories, while more experienced students can progress toward stronger rated competition. Twierdza Mokotów also organizes holiday chess programs and intensive training activities. These combine lessons, tournament preparation, game analysis, and competitive play, giving junior players experience beyond ordinary weekly classes. The club’s frequent tournament schedule is particularly useful for developing players because they can move gradually from introductory events into FIDE-rated rapid, blitz, and classical chess without leaving the same training environment.

🏆 Tournament Activity

Twierdza Mokotów maintains a dense competition calendar at its Warsaw premises. During late 2025 and throughout 2026, it organized numerous tournaments for Polish chess categories alongside FIDE-rated events. In January 2026, the club staged its third tournament for III and II chess categories, attracting 52 participants. Another edition on February 28–March 1 attracted 44 players, with several competitors earning new Polish categories. The club also runs FIDE-rated rapid and blitz chess. Its May 2026 Chess Festival included a nine-round FIDE Rapid tournament with 62 participants, while the Blitzomania Grand Prix provides recurring FIDE-rated blitz competition. The second Blitzomania event in June used an 11-round Swiss format with 26 players. Twierdza Mokotów has additionally experimented with Fischer Random / Chess960, giving its members and visiting players competitive opportunities beyond conventional chess formats.

🌍 Warsaw Chess Masters

The club’s most ambitious current tournament project is Warsaw Chess Masters, a series of international classical round-robin events designed for players at several competitive levels. The Warsaw Chess Masters Autumn 2026 program is scheduled for September 21–26, 2026 at the club’s Powsińska 106 venue. It comprises four groups: GM, IM, Challengers, and Futures. All sections use a classical time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move and are submitted for FIDE Standard rating. The GM and IM groups are structured around high-level international competition and potential title-norm conditions when the finalized fields satisfy FIDE requirements. Meanwhile, Challengers and Futures provide similarly structured round-robin competition for improving players. IM Zbigniew Strzemiecki serves as Tournament Director, while IA Aleksander Kędzierski is Chief Arbiter. The Futures section, for example, is planned as a nine-round round robin for players in approximately the 1650–1950 FIDE range. Through Warsaw Chess Masters, the club is extending its activity from grassroots and junior chess into serious international tournament organization.

🏛️ Organization and Development

The Polish Chess Federation officially registered UKS Twierdza Mokotów as an ordinary member on March 26, 2026. The federation’s central register identifies Zbigniew Strzemiecki as club manager and confirms the Powsińska Street location. The organization therefore combines two complementary roles. It operates as a youth-oriented chess school and community club while simultaneously developing a substantial tournament program for rated adult players and titled competitors. This combination of coaching, classification tournaments, fast chess, classical competition, and international round robins has allowed Twierdza Mokotów to build an unusually broad program within a relatively short period of activity.
