♟️ About Stichting Schaak Promotie

Stichting Schaak Promotie is a Dutch chess foundation based in Roosendaal, Netherlands. The organization promotes chess through national championships, school competitions, corporate chess, educational activities, and other events aimed at both competitive and recreational players. The foundation works closely with the Koninklijke Nederlandse Schaakbond (KNSB) and the wider Dutch chess community. Its activities range from major national competitions to grassroots school chess. This allows the organization to support chess at several levels, from children learning the game to experienced club players and national championship participants. The current board is led by Ger IJzermans, Chairman. Ad Bruijns serves as Secretary and Erik van Elven as Treasurer, while Frans Peeters and Ton van der Werf are board members. Frans Peeters, an International Arbiter and experienced tournament organizer, is also an active public contact for several of the foundation’s major events.

🏆 National Championships and Events

Stichting Schaak Promotie has become an active organizer of important competitions in the Dutch chess calendar. In 2026, the foundation was responsible for the organization of the Dutch Chess Championships, held from July 4 to 11 at the Renaissance Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Hotel. The foundation also organizes the NK Snelschaken, the Dutch individual blitz championship. The 2026 edition takes place on September 12 at Zalencentrum Rustburcht in Rotterdam, with Ger IJzermans as Tournament Director and Frans Peeters involved in the tournament organization. Another important project is the NK Bedrijvenschaak, the Dutch Corporate Team Chess Championship. After organizing the competition in 2023 and 2024, Stichting Schaak Promotie returns as organizer in 2026. The championship takes place on September 26 at De Moriaan in Wijk aan Zee and brings together company teams from across the Netherlands.

🎓 School Chess and Community Activities

School chess is another important part of the foundation’s work. Stichting Schaak Promotie organizes the primary-school team championship for the Roosendaal district of the North Brabant Chess Federation. The competition brings together schools from Roosendaal and surrounding municipalities and provides a pathway toward the Brabant regional finals. The foundation has organized school championships, national youth events, corporate chess tournaments, blitz championships, and community chess initiatives for many years. Through these activities, it combines competitive tournament organization with the broader promotion of chess in the Netherlands.
