♟️ About Sirály Életmód SE

Sirály Életmód SE, officially Sirály Életmód Sport Egyesület, is a multi-sport association based in Budapest, Hungary. Founded in 1998, the organization promotes recreational and competitive sport for children, adults, and families. Its activities have included chess, running, football, handball, triathlon, hiking, and other sports. Chess has been an established part of the association since 2004. Today, the chess section is particularly active in central Budapest, with regular activities at Eötvös 10 Művelődési Ház in Terézváros. It provides club chess, youth instruction, team competition, and FIDE-rated tournaments. Szedlák Gábor is the current President of Sirály Életmód SE, while Juhász Béla leads the chess section and is the principal contact for chess activities and tournaments. Juhász regularly serves as Tournament Director and coordinates registrations, school chess, team activity, and the club’s public tournament program.

🎓 Youth and School Chess

Youth chess is one of the strongest parts of Sirály’s program. The association has worked in Budapest schools for many years and organizes chess instruction as well as district-level student competitions. Its historical school program has included institutions in several central Budapest districts. In May 2026, Sirály organized talent-development tournaments for schoolchildren in both Terézváros and Budapest’s inner districts. The competitions offered separate age categories and were designed to introduce young players to organized tournament chess. Regular chess sessions also continue at Eötvös 10, with Juhász Béla listed as Head of the Chess Section and contact for participants.

♜ Team Chess

Sirály Életmód SE participates actively in the Budapest Team Championship. During the 2025–2026 season, its team competed as Sirály-Lombik SE in the Bilek Group of Budapest’s second adult division, with home matches at Eötvös utca 10. The cooperation also extends to junior chess. Sirály-Lombik fielded a team in the 2025–2026 Budapest Youth Team Championship, providing competitive opportunities for developing players.

🏆 FIDE-Rated Tournaments

Sirály has expanded its tournament program considerably in recent years. At the end of 2024, the association organized the 1st Sirály International Tournament, a seven-round FIDE-rated classical competition with separate rating groups. Szedlák Gábor served as Tournament Director, while Juhász Béla was one of the principal organizers. The club also organizes the recurring Terézváros Rapid Open, together with memorial, youth, and other competitive events in central Budapest.

🌍 Terézváros Open 2026

The Terézváros Open 2026 takes place on September 12–13, 2026 at Eötvös 10 Művelődési Ház. Organized by Sirály Életmód SE with support from the Municipality of Terézváros, the tournament offers two FIDE-rated sections: U2400 and U1800. The U2400 competition consists of five rounds at 60 minutes plus 30 seconds per move, while the U1800 section uses seven rounds at 30 minutes plus 30 seconds per move. Juhász Béla is the principal organizer contact, with International Arbiter Attila Kása and FIDE Arbiter Gábor Etele Kovács forming the arbiting team.

🏛️ Organization and Leadership

Szedlák Gábor is the current President of Sirály Életmód SE. Current Budapest municipal and sports federation sources continue to identify him as the association’s senior representative. For chess-related matters, Juhász Béla is the most appropriate Contact Person. He serves as Head of the Chess Section and is consistently listed for current tournaments, club sessions, and Budapest team competition.
