♟️ About the Organizer
Masters Cup is an international chess tournament series based in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, India. Masters Chess Club, Palayamkottai organizes the series under the relevant AICF, Tamil Nadu, and Tirunelveli district approvals. The club combines tournament organization with online and in-person chess coaching. Its training program welcomes beginners, developing players, and experienced competitors.
A. Murukaananth leads the tournament program as chief organizer and principal contact. FIDE records confirm his role in the Masters Cup standard and rapid events. In addition, he works with experienced arbiters and regional chess officials. The organizing team manages entries, schedules, pairings, rating submissions, prizes, accommodation, and communication with participants.
Masters Chess Club uses suitable colleges and universities across Tirunelveli for its larger competitions. Previous venues have included Joy University, St. John’s College, and Francis Xavier Engineering College. Meanwhile, the 2026 classical tournament uses PSN College of Engineering and Technology. This flexible approach allows the team to host both one-day rapid events and multi-day international opens.
🏆 Masters Cup Tournaments and Chess Events
The club launched the Masters Cup International Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament in July 2025. The first edition featured four days of classical chess in Tirunelveli. It used a 90-minute time control with a 30-second increment from move one. Moreover, FIDE recorded 150 participants and confirmed A. Murukaananth as chief organizer.
Masters Chess Club also developed a separate rapid series. The first Masters Cup International Rapid tournament took place in Palayamkottai in October 2025. It attracted 150 players and used a 10+5 time control. In addition, the event offered ₹200,000 in cash prizes. FIDE submitted the results for international rapid rating.
The second rapid edition continued the series in 2026. FIDE again recorded 150 participants, with IA P. Uma Maheswaran serving as chief arbiter. A. Murukaananth led the organization and also joined the arbitration team. Therefore, the competition maintained experienced technical supervision alongside its expanding player field.
The 2nd Masters Cup International Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2026 takes place from July 8–12. Players complete nine Swiss-system rounds at 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move. Furthermore, the event offers ₹600,000 in cash prizes and free hostel accommodation for participants. IA P. Uma Maheswaran serves as chief arbiter.
🌱 Chess Training and Player Development
Masters Chess Club presents its coaching program as suitable for players from beginner to advanced level. It offers both online and offline instruction in Tirunelveli. Therefore, students can combine regular training with practical tournament experience through the Masters Cup series.
The tournaments also create opportunities for different player groups. The 2026 classical event includes awards for younger players, women, veterans, and several rating categories. As a result, participants can compete for recognition beyond the main overall standings.
Free accommodation forms another important part of the organizer’s current model. The 2026 tournament provides separate hostel arrangements for men and women. In addition, the regulations publish clear check-in and check-out times. This support can reduce the practical cost of attending a multi-day tournament.
The club also publishes registration options through established Indian chess platforms. Players can follow participant lists, pairings, and results through Chess-Results. Meanwhile, official FIDE records confirm the rating status of completed tournaments. This combination supports transparent tournament administration and gives players reliable access to event information.
