Forking Knights Chess Academy is a chess tournament organizer based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The academy focuses strongly on over-the-board competition, particularly children’s tournaments, open events, and FIDE-rated competitions. Its events operate within the Tamil Nadu chess structure and regularly appear on the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association calendar. Public tournament records show Forking Knights organizing in Chennai since at least 2023, when it staged its first Tamil Nadu State Level Chess Tournament at the Hall of Chess, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. 🌍 International FIDE-Rated Tournaments

A major development came in August 2026 with the Forking Knights International FIDE Rated Open Chess Tournament. The tournament ran from August 5–9, 2026 at the Hall of Chess, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. It consisted of nine classical rounds at 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move. Sundaraiah Y. R. and Vishnuram S served as Tournament Directors. Forking Knights followed the classical Open with an International FIDE Rated Blitz Open on August 9. The nine-round event used a time control of 3 minutes plus a 2-second increment per move and attracted a strong field that included Grandmasters, International Masters, and FIDE Masters.

🏆 Below-1650 Open 2026

The academy continued its FIDE-rated program with the Forking Knights International FIDE Rated Below 1650 Open Chess Tournament, held from August 21–23, 2026. The nine-round competition was again staged at the Hall of Chess in Chennai and was designed specifically for players meeting the published below-1650 eligibility conditions. Chess-Results confirms Vishnuram S and Sundaraiah Y. R. as Tournament Directors, with International Arbiter Nandakumar Veeraraghavan leading the arbiting team. By combining unrestricted Opens with rating-restricted events and junior competitions, Forking Knights provides tournament opportunities for a wide range of players, from young beginners to strong titled competitors.
