Quick Round Robin 2026 takes place on August 29 and 30, 2026, at the Hammer SC 08 clubhouse in Hamm, Germany. This is a chess tournament in Hamm, Germany, in 2026. The event places club players into small groups based on German DWZ strength.

Children, juniors, and adults can enter without a DWZ ceiling, provided they are registered club players. In addition, the six-player group format aims to give every participant five opponents of broadly comparable playing strength.

The tournament charges no entry fee and submits every group for DWZ rating. Consequently, it offers an accessible route to five serious games during the final weekend of the regional school holidays.

The organizers accept children, juniors, and adults, but participation is restricted to club players. There is no upper or lower DWZ limit, and the overall capacity is 102 players.

The ranking list is updated using the latest available DWZ on the evening before the tournament. Groups of six are then formed so that each player faces opponents near the same strength.

The group allocation is the central feature of the event. A player’s latest DWZ determines the initial ranking, and the organizers then create bands of six as evenly as possible. This provides a clearer competitive reference than a large Swiss event in which opposition can vary sharply from round to round.

⏰ Time Control & Pairings

For the first 40 moves, each player receives 60 minutes without increment. After the time control, the clock adds 20 minutes for the remainder of the game and applies a 30-second increment to subsequent moves.

Each normal group plays a complete five-round all-play-all. If the final group cannot be divided evenly, the organizers may form a seven- to eleven-player section and run five Swiss rounds instead.

All groups are submitted for DWZ evaluation, and players must keep score. The default time is 30 minutes.

The unusual two-stage time control requires special clock awareness. No increment is available during the first 40 moves, but the final phase includes 20 additional minutes and 30 seconds for every later move. Players should confirm that the clock is set correctly before starting.

📂 Sections / Groups

Standard groups Six players of similar DWZ; five-game round robin
Possible final groups Seven to eleven players; five-round Swiss system when necessary
Eligibility Children, juniors, and adults who are registered club players
Capacity Maximum 102 participants

The tournament director retains limited discretion to place a participant in a specific group when justified. Final group composition therefore depends on the complete entry list and the updated DWZ ranking.

🗓️ Schedule

Saturday, August 29 Attendance confirmation by 09:45; Round 1 at 10:00; Rounds 2 and 3 start 30 minutes after the last game in each group
Sunday, August 30 Round 4 at 11:00; Round 5 starts 30 minutes after the last game in each group; awards after Round 5

Because later rounds start independently for each group, finishing times can differ. Players should remain near the playing area and follow announcements after the final game of their section ends.

📝 Registration

Entry fee Free
Deadline Thursday, August 27, 2026
Required details Name, club, and DWZ through the online form
Maximum field 102 players

Registration takes place through the form linked from the official announcement. The system lets German club players select their record from the DWZ database and creates an automatic confirmation.

Questions about registration or the tournament format may be sent to turnier@sv49.de.

Free entry makes withdrawals especially disruptive because an empty seat affects five opponents in the same round robin. Registered players who can no longer attend should use the online withdrawal function immediately rather than simply failing to appear.

The tournament accepts only registered club players. No minimum or maximum DWZ applies. The online list updates after each registration. A full field moves later applicants to a waiting list. Each group winner receives a trophy. No cash prize or entry fee applies.

👤 Organizer

Schachbezirk Hamm e.V. presents the tournament as a joint project of SV Bönen 49, SG Caissa Hamm 1981, and the chess section of Hammer SC 08.

📍 Venue

Vereinsheim Hammer SC 08 e.V. – Am Südbad 9, 59069 Hamm, Germany.

The clubhouse setting matches the small-group concept. Participants should arrive early enough to confirm attendance by 09:45 on Saturday, because group integrity depends on every registered player being present.

The Saturday schedule progresses separately in each group after Round 1. A fast-finishing group may begin its next game earlier than another section, so players must follow their own director’s announcements instead of relying on a single hall-wide start time.

🚗 How to Get There

By rail Hamm Hauptbahnhof is a major railway junction. Continue toward Am Südbad by local bus or taxi.
By car Hamm is accessible from the A1 and A2 corridors. Use the full clubhouse address and observe local parking restrictions.
By air Dortmund Airport is the nearest practical airport for many routes; Düsseldorf Airport provides a broader international network.

Sunday public transport can run less frequently than on weekdays. Players should verify the return journey in advance, especially because the final round begins after each group completes Round 4.

Quick Round Robin is a distinctive free-entry weekend for players who value balanced opposition and a complete small-group competition.
