Recklinghäuser SV Süd/Ost 2022 is a chess club based in Recklinghausen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The association operates within Schachbezirk Herne-Vest, Schachverband Ruhrgebiet, and Schachbund Nordrhein-Westfalen. Its current statutes took effect on June 24, 2022, and define the organization’s purpose as promoting and maintaining chess as a sporting and community activity. The club’s regular playing venue is Bürgerhaus Süd in Recklinghausen. The club combines competitive team chess with youth training, internal competitions, monthly blitz tournaments, open rapid chess, and its flagship classical tournament, the Recklinghäuser Schachwoche. Current regional federation records list 59 registered members, including 11 women. Moreover, the club maintains several teams, allowing experienced competitors, recreational players, and juniors to take part in organized league chess at different levels. Heinrich Balke is the current Chairman and official representative of Recklinghäuser SV Süd/Ost 2022, while Roland Mecklenburg serves as Youth Director. The first team secured its place in the Verbandsliga during the 2025–2026 season and will continue at that level in 2026–2027. Meanwhile, the club completed a particularly successful 2026 tournament season, highlighted by a record edition of the Recklinghäuser Schachwoche with 79 participants.

♜ Team Chess and the 2025–2026 Season

Competitive team chess forms an important part of the club’s program. Recklinghäuser SV Süd/Ost fields several teams within the Ruhrgebiet and Herne-Vest league structures, creating opportunities for players across a wide range of strengths. The first team competed in the Verbandsliga during the 2025–2026 season. It secured survival before the final round and therefore retained its place for the new season. For 2026–2027, the first team will compete in Verbandsliga Group 2. Its scheduled opponents include Hervest Dorstener SK, SV Unna, SF Brackel III, SF Essen-Katernberg II, SV Eichlinghofen, SC Doppelbauer Brambauer, SK Holsterhausen, SV Bochum-Linden-Dahlhausen, and SG Gladbeck. The second team is scheduled to play in Verbandsbezirksliga Group 4. In addition, further club teams compete through the Schachbezirk Herne-Vest structure, helping developing players move gradually into stronger league competition.

🎓 Youth Chess and Club Activity

Youth chess remains a central part of the club’s weekly program. Roland Mecklenburg coordinates the youth section, while younger players receive opportunities to train, play internal games, and enter district and regional competitions. The club’s membership includes children and teenagers as well as experienced adult players. Therefore, younger members can progress from introductory training toward rated individual tournaments and official team chess. Recklinghäuser SV Süd/Ost also runs regular activities outside its league schedule. During 2026, the club introduced recurring monthly blitz tournaments at Bürgerhaus Süd, normally held on the first Tuesday of the month. Another community event took place on May 30, 2026, when the club organized a free rapid tournament as part of Recklinghausen’s Woche des Sports. The competition was designed for players rated below 1600 DWZ and attracted 17 participants. Ahmet Ulas, representing the host club, won with an impressive 6.5 points from seven rounds.

🏆 Recklinghäuser Schachwoche 2026

The Recklinghäuser Schachwoche is the club’s principal annual open tournament. The 2026 edition took place from August 17–23, 2026 at Pfarrheim St. Gertrudis in Recklinghausen. Players contested seven Swiss-system rounds with one classical game on each tournament day. The time control was 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the remainder of the game, with a 30-second increment from move one. Results counted for both FIDE Elo and German DWZ ratings. The 2026 tournament reached a new participation record with 79 players. The field included several titled competitors and produced a closely fought battle for the leading places. FM Tom Rebentisch won the tournament with 6/7. FM Simon Knudsen finished second with 5.5 points, while FM Kemal Bashirov and FM Jakob Weidemann also scored 5.5. IM Tobias Jugelt completed the top five. The tournament also awarded dedicated prizes for women, juniors, seniors, and several rating categories. Clara Kanno won the women’s prize, Henry Meyer the junior prize, and Walter Grosser the senior prize. The club has already expressed its intention to continue the Schachwoche in 2027, confirming the competition as a long-term centerpiece of its tournament calendar.

🏠 Playing Venue and Community Chess

The club’s regular home is Bürgerhaus Süd in Recklinghausen. It serves as the principal location for training, league matches, internal events, and monthly blitz tournaments. For larger events, the organization also uses other local venues. The 2026 Schachwoche took place at Pfarrheim St. Gertrudis, while the Woche des Sports rapid tournament was held at the Oberlinhaus. This combination of regular club chess, youth development, league competition, and open tournaments gives Recklinghäuser SV Süd/Ost 2022 an active role in the chess community of Recklinghausen and the wider Ruhr region.
