♟️ About the Organizer
Visaginas Chess Club, known in Lithuanian as Visagino Šachmatų Klubas, is a long-established chess organization in Visaginas, Lithuania. The club was founded on September 22, 1978. Therefore, it ranks among the oldest active sports organizations in the city. It operates as a community club, training center, and tournament organizer for players of different ages and strengths.
NA AFM Jevgenij Volosatov serves as club president. He also leads tournaments, supports player development, and works as a chess arbiter. In addition, the club maintains a regular program of academy lessons, in-person competitions, and online events. Its motto, “Silent. Think. Win.,” reflects its focus on concentration and competitive improvement.
The club welcomes children, adults, beginners, and experienced players. Academy sessions provide structured instruction, while weekly rapid tournaments offer regular competitive practice. Moreover, online events help members remain active between over-the-board competitions. This combination gives players a clear route from training to rated tournament play.
🏆 Tournaments and Chess Events
Visaginas Chess Club organizes FIDE-rated rapid events and local community competitions. Its current program includes the Visaginas Chess Masters series. For example, Visaginas Chess Masters III will take place on August 30, 2026. The event uses a seven-round Swiss system and a 10+5 rapid time control.
The club also supports tournaments linked to major city celebrations. Recent examples include the Araik Tunian Cup and the Visaginas 50 FIDE Rapid Tournament. In addition, municipal programs list club birthday, Easter, Christmas, and junior chess events. The club also delivers public chess activities during festivals and community sports programs.
Tournament organization includes regulations, registrations, pairings, arbitration, rating submission, and player communication. Furthermore, the club has electronic DGT boards and broadcasting infrastructure. These resources allow it to present selected games online. They also help create a professional playing environment for local and visiting competitors.
🌱 Chess Education and Community Development
Youth development forms a central part of the club’s work. The organization runs regular chess lessons for children and adults. It also prepares young players for Lithuanian and international championships. As a result, students can develop through training, practice games, and formal competition.
The Visaginas Chess Academy provides scheduled classes and tracks student progress. Moreover, the club organizes a children’s summer chess camp in July. It also uses digital exercises, homework tasks, puzzle contests, and online tournaments. These tools support learning outside regular classroom sessions.
Community outreach remains equally important. The club has introduced chess through open lessons, public tournaments, and large outdoor chess pieces. Meanwhile, its Chess.com and Lichess communities provide frequent online play. Together, these activities connect local families, developing juniors, and experienced club members.
Regular club rapid tournaments take place on Fridays. The club also runs academy classes and Sunday online competitions. Therefore, players can choose between lessons, practice, rated events, and digital chess throughout the year.
