♟️ About the Organizer

Šachový klub Dúbravan is a registered chess club and tournament organizer based in Bratislava-Dúbravka, Slovakia. The club was established in April 2011 by 15 founding members and was formally registered on April 28, 2011. Its original goals included providing chess training for children, participating in Slovak team leagues, and organizing tournaments for young players in the Dúbravka district. The club later expanded its activities to include competitions for adults, community events, educational lectures, and professionally managed FIDE-rated tournaments. FA Ladislav Šipeky serves as club president, coach, arbiter, and one of the principal officials responsible for its development. Slovakia’s official nonprofit register confirms the club’s legal status, registered address, establishment date, and current president.

🏆 Tournaments and Chess Events

The club’s best-known competition is the FIDE Open Dúbravan – O pohár SNP, a traditional classical tournament held in Bratislava’s Dúbravka district. The event uses the Swiss system and is submitted for both FIDE and Slovak rating. The XIII Open Dúbravan 2026 continues the series from August 23–29 at Kultúrne centrum Fontána. The tournament team includes a director, chief arbiter, registration coordinator, and other experienced club officials who manage entries, pairings, technical equipment, rating submissions, and communication with participants. The club also organizes rapid tournaments, children’s competitions, school championships, the charitable Women’s Chess Tournament, Grill & Chess events, and other community-focused activities. In addition, it offers chess-event organization, qualified arbiters, technical support, chess equipment rental, workshops, simultaneous exhibitions, and corporate chess activities.

🌱 Youth Chess and Community Development

Youth training has remained one of Dúbravan’s central activities since the club’s foundation. Regular sessions are held at Centrum rodiny in Bratislava-Dúbravka, where children can learn the rules, improve their practical skills, and prepare for individual and team competitions. The club’s training program also introduces young players to tournament regulations and sporting conduct. Dúbravan participates in regional league competitions and has progressed through several levels of the Slovak team system. Its wider community work includes intergenerational activities, school cooperation, outdoor chess promotion, charitable tournaments, and the Chess Mind educational lecture series for players, coaches, arbiters, and chess officials. These activities allow the club to combine competitive chess with education, social participation, and accessible events for players of different ages and abilities.
