BŠK Bardejov, officially known as Bardejovský šachový klub, is a chess club based in Bardejov, Slovakia. Organized club chess in the city traces its roots to 1975. The club’s historical records also document an international tournament in Bardejovské Kúpele in 1926. BŠK Bardejov supports competitive chess, youth development, school competitions, and community events. The club fields players and teams in Slovak league competitions. It also maintains long-standing chess contacts with clubs in Poland. These cross-border relationships began in 1994 and later included friendly matches and regional league activity. Ing. Ján Cuper serves as chair of the club.

🏆 Chess Events and Activities

One of the club’s main events is the international SNP Bardejov tournament. The club organized its first edition in 1980. The 47th edition takes place from August 20 to 23, 2026. BŠK Bardejov organizes the event with the City of Bardejov. Seniorcentrum at Toplianska 9 hosts the tournament. Players compete over seven Swiss-system rounds. The time control gives each player 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move. The organizer submits the results for Slovak national and FIDE rating calculation. Ľuboš Tokarčík serves as tournament director, while NA Ivan Dzuriš serves as chief arbiter. The club also supports rapid tournaments, school events, district competitions, and cross-border chess activities.

🌍 Youth Chess and Community

BŠK Bardejov works with the city, Seniorcentrum Bardejov, schools, and local chess officials. The club has helped organize district and regional competitions for primary and secondary school pupils. These events introduce young players to structured over-the-board chess. They also provide a route from school competitions into club and league play. The club’s tournament program brings together juniors, adults, senior players, and visitors from other countries. Its cooperation with Polish chess organizations also supports regular cross-border participation. Through school chess, club teams, rated tournaments, and community events, BŠK Bardejov contributes to chess activity in the city and the wider Prešov Region.
