♟️ About AO Juan Jenaro Dávila Chávez
Juan Jenaro Dávila Chávez is a Peruvian chess organizer and FIDE Arbiter (FA) based in Tarapoto, San Martín. He is closely associated with Club de Ajedrez Tarapoto, through which he organizes FIDE-rated classical, rapid, and blitz tournaments in northeastern Peru. Current international tournament records identify him with FIDE ID 3842649 and also list him as an Associate Organizer (AO). Dávila Chávez combines tournament organization with arbiting. His events range from introductory and youth competitions to regional championships and international rating tournaments for experienced players. In addition to Tarapoto, his organizing activity has extended to Yurimaguas, helping players in the wider San Martín and Alto Amazonas area gain access to officially rated over-the-board chess without traveling to Peru’s largest cities. In 2026, Dávila Chávez maintained an especially active tournament program. He organized Women’s Day rapid and blitz events, Tarapoto and Yurimaguas rating tournaments, and the Gran Torneo Internacional Ciudad de Tarapoto 2026. The latter concluded on August 23, 2026 as part of Tarapoto’s 244th anniversary celebrations and combined FIDE-rated classical, rapid, and blitz competitions.🏛️ Club de Ajedrez Tarapoto
Much of Dávila Chávez’s chess activity is conducted through Club de Ajedrez Tarapoto. The club organizes regular FIDE-rated competition and states that its objectives include expanding chess participation in the region and improving the competitive level of local players. Its tournament program covers different formats and playing strengths. Events have included Under-20 and Under-1800 competitions, open tournaments, closed rating events, regional championships, rapid and blitz tournaments, and competitions linked to civic celebrations. Dávila Chávez also acts as a direct registration and information contact. Therefore, players can communicate with the organizer through the club’s published email and WhatsApp number for entries, tournament regulations, and other practical information.🏆 2026 Tournament Activity
One of Dávila Chávez’s early 2026 projects was the IRT Rapid Open Homenaje al Día de la Mujer, held in Tarapoto on March 7. He served as both organizer and Chief Arbiter of the six-round FIDE-rated rapid competition. His 2026 organizer record also includes the Tarapoto Chess tournament program and FIDE-rated events in Yurimaguas, extending structured competition beyond Tarapoto itself. These events provide classical and faster time controls for local juniors, adult club players, and established rated competitors. This continues a tournament record that predates 2026. FIDE documentation records his organizational work at events such as the 2022 Sub-2400 tournament in Tarapoto, the Campeonato Regional Nor Oriente, closed FIDE-rated events, and the 2025 tournament celebrating Tarapoto’s 243rd anniversary.🌍 Gran Torneo Internacional Ciudad de Tarapoto 2026
The Gran Torneo Internacional Ciudad de Tarapoto 2026 took place from August 20–23, 2026 at the Concha Acústica de Tarapoto. Dávila Chávez was the organizer, while IA Carlomario Castañeda del Aguila served as Chief Arbiter. Dávila Chávez additionally worked as Deputy Arbiter. The festival consisted of three FIDE-rated competitions. The classical Open used seven Swiss rounds at 60+30, the rapid tournament used six rounds at 10+5, and the blitz tournament used nine rounds at 3+2. The classical starting list included strong Peruvian players such as Marco Delgado Romero, Luis Flores Tomasto, FM Elbert Gallo Ponce, and CM Garry Hernandez Ojeda, alongside competitors from Tarapoto, Yurimaguas, Juanjuí, Moyobamba, and other Peruvian chess communities. By combining all three formats within Tarapoto’s anniversary program, Dávila Chávez created a multi-day event that connected local chess development with Peru’s wider FIDE-rated tournament system.⚖️ Arbiting and FIDE Qualifications
Dávila Chávez successfully completed the examination at the 113th Internet-based FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar in July 2022. His subsequent arbiter-title application was approved by FIDE. Current FIDE arbiter records list him as a FIDE Arbiter (FA) for Peru. His practical experience includes work as Chief Arbiter, Deputy Arbiter, and sector arbiter at tournaments ranging from regional competitions to the Pan-American School Championships. Consequently, his work in Tarapoto combines two complementary roles: developing and organizing tournaments while also providing qualified technical tournament administration.
