Genius – Academia de Xadrez is a chess academy in Itajubá, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The academy became official in 2019, after chess training work that began in 2010 with Prof. Antonio Martins, known as Toninho. Its activity focuses on structured chess lessons, tournament preparation, school chess, and competitive development for young players.

The academy works with students from beginner to advanced level. Its training program includes individual lessons, group lessons, online instruction, in-person academy classes, home lessons, internal training, and tournament support. In addition, Genius uses a teaching approach inspired by Russian chess schools, with a focus on age level, technical level, and practical tournament goals.

🏆 Chess Events and Activities

Genius – Academia de Xadrez organizes FIDE/CBX-licensed events in Minas Gerais and appears as a registered chess event organizer with the Brazilian chess structure. Its tournament work includes IRT Genius events, Genius Grand Prix events, rapid and blitz competitions, and the Circuito das Estações Genius. These events give players rated and structured over-the-board opportunities in Itajubá and nearby tournament settings.

The academy also has a strong record in Brazilian youth chess. Its students have won Brazilian and Minas Gerais titles, and several players have represented Brazil in international youth competitions. Genius athletes include titled and nationally recognized juniors, which shows the academy’s direct role in competitive chess training. Moreover, the academy’s calendar includes national youth events, school chess tournaments, regional amateur championships, and preparation dates for major competitions.
