2nd Chess Festival Marino Città degli Scacchi “Sagra dell’Uva” 2026 takes place on September 12–20, 2026, in Marino, Italy. The main tournament offers three classical sections at Sala Lepanto, inside Palazzo Colonna.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

The main tournament uses the FIDE Dutch Swiss system. Each section has 7 rounds.

Each player receives 90 minutes for the game, plus a 30-second increment from move one. Therefore, the festival gives players a serious classical chess tournament with FIDE rating value.

Players may request one half-point bye in any round except the final two rounds. The bye must follow the tournament procedure and cannot be used more than once.

The default time is 45 minutes. A player who arrives later than the allowed delay time loses the game.

Tie-breaks follow this order: REP, Buchholz Cut 1, Buchholz Total, and Average Rating of Opponents.

💰 Prize Fund

The confirmed cash prize fund is €2,100, approximately $2,460. Cash prizes are paid net of the 20% tax withholding when applicable.

Italian players and foreign players resident in Italy need valid FSI competitive or junior membership for 2026. Foreign players who do not reside in Italy need a FIDE Identity Number from their federation.

The venue area has bars and restaurants nearby. Therefore, players can find food and drinks close to the playing hall between rounds.

Marino is located in the Castelli Romani area, southeast of Rome. Players can reach the town by car, regional transport, taxi, or local connections from Rome and nearby towns.

The festival opens with a simultaneous exhibition on Friday, September 11, at the panoramic Terrazzone near Marino Town Hall. The entry fee is €5, while main tournament players can join free of charge.

A free chess activity takes place on Sunday, September 13, in Piazza San Barnaba. It includes a giant chessboard and table chess sets.

The FIDE blitz side tournament takes place on Sunday, September 20, at Sala Lepanto. It uses 8 rounds with a 5 minutes + 3 seconds time control. The entry fee is €15, or €5 for main tournament participants.

Players may not smoke or bring electronic communication devices into the playing area. If a phone rings during play, the player loses the game.

By entering the festival, players accept the use of tournament data, results, photos, and videos for event communication.
