10th Festival Week End “Hotel Mediterranee” 2026 brings a three-day classical chess festival to Genoa, Italy from June 12 to June 14, 2026. The event takes place at Hotel Mediterranee in Pegli and offers a practical seaside setting close to the train station and the airport.

The festival splits the field into three sections. Tournament A is for players rated above 1800, Tournament B is for players in the 1550–1850 range, and Tournament C is for players rated below 1600. Moreover, every section uses the same classical weekend format, which keeps the structure clear for all participants.

The event also gives players useful practical support. In addition, the organizer has published hotel rates, parking details, meal options, rating thresholds, and a full prize table for all three sections. Therefore, it works well for both local players and visitors coming to Genoa for a short tournament trip.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

All three tournaments run as 5-round Dutch FIDE Swiss events. Each player receives 90 minutes for the game plus a 30-second increment from move 1. As a result, the festival keeps a fully classical pace across the entire weekend.

The organizer uses Buchholz FIDE tie-breaks. The published order is REP, Buchholz Total, Buchholz Cut 1, and ARO. Meanwhile, a player who arrives more than 60 minutes after the start of a round loses by forfeit.

The regulations also allow a half-point forfeit bye on request. However, the player must send that request by email no later than Tuesday, June 9, 2026. In standard pairings, a player who receives a pairing bye scores 1 point.

💰 Prize Fund

The festival offers a total confirmed cash prize fund of EUR 1,900 (approx. USD 2,060) plus 10 cups. Prizes are indivisible and non-cumulative.

Cups go to the first three finishers in each tournament. In addition, the festival awards a cup to the best player rated under 1400.

The organizer may also grant wild cards in Tournaments A and B. However, the total number of wild cards cannot exceed 4 players, and the player must request the wild card formally by email. Moreover, the organizer accepts those requests only at its own discretion and mainly for players with a rating close to the upper section threshold.

The festival finishes with prize-giving after the final round.

📝 Registration

Players need to complete payment in cash at the playing venue by the published deadline. In addition, the event requires a valid 2026 FSI competitive membership, although players may also arrange that membership on site.

Gruppo Scacchi Ponente organizes the festival in collaboration with the Regional Liguria Chess Committee. The event continues the long-running Hotel Mediterranee weekend series in Genoa Pegli and keeps the familiar multi-section format for club and tournament players.

Moreover, the hotel offers reserved parking until the available spaces run out.

The regulations give the arbiters full authority during the event, and their decisions are final. In addition, the organizer may make changes if they help the tournament run smoothly.

The festival area is also close to the Pegli seafront promenade and Villa Durazzo Pallavicini Park. Therefore, players who stay in Pegli can combine the tournament with a relaxed seaside weekend in western Genoa.
